    Job Descriptionp{margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:1pt;}pspanpspanpspanppppspanspanspanspanspanspanpspanpspanspanspanspanspanspanspanspanp HVAC Technician IIIJob Overview The HVAC Technician III is expected to work and effectively communicate to all interested parties in a fast paced, team environment servicing and maintaining HVAC, refrigeration, commercial and residential kitchen equipment, steam and building automation systems.

    The Technician III should be a motivated self-starter and flexible to meet the demands of assigned work duties.

    In the spirit of an educational institution, a Technician III should always be growing in knowledge by actively seeking vocational training while on the job or through continuing education.

    Since safety is a core principle, the Technician III is expected to pursue stationary engineer training and subsequent licensing. Reports to the HVAC Manager.
    Duties and Responsibilities 1.

    Perform preventive maintenance and repair on equipment including:

    a) Air handling and fan coil units b) Air compressors c) Boilers (steam and hydronic) d) High pressure and low pressure steam systems e) Residential and commercial heating and cooling equipment f) Chillers (Absorber and Centrifugal) and Cooling Towers g) Refrigeration equipment (food service and scientific) 2.


    Perform proficient replacement and installation duties including:
    a)

    Roof top package units b) Exhaust fans c) Residential HVAC equipment d) Boilers e) Motors and pumps 3. Troubleshoot equipment and systems including:
    a) Steam traps b) Refrigeration c) Low and line voltage including electrical controls d) Building automation e) Variable frequency drives 4. Demonstrate proficiency in operating and maintaining building automation systems. 5.

    Serve as part of an on-call rotation schedule and must be available for after-hours work and emergenciesThis job description is intended to represent key areas of responsibilities; specific assignments may vary from time to time, and other duties may be assigned.

    Qualifications 1. High School diploma or equivalent. 2. Eight years as an HVAC technician and installer. 3. Possess a Type I and Type II refrigeration license or preferably a universal license. 4. Working knowledge of steam and hot water systems. 5. Working knowledge of low voltage and line voltage controls. 6. Working knowledge of drives, Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes, and fan-powered boxes. 7. Proficient use and operation of power tools, testing and monitoring equipment. 8. Strong customer service orientation. 9. Effective verbal and written communication skills. 10. Leadership skills coupled with mechanical aptitude. 11. Have and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.

    Physical Requirements The employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, sit, kneel, crawl, stand on a ladder or scaffolding, reach, squat and work with hands above head for long periods of time.

    Required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel objects and work outside during all weather conditions (including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.) and for extended periods of time.

    Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
