ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ensure that all PSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met
  • Assist field engineers in their daily production support activities
  • Create, modify, and/or reproduce design and production drawings
  • Inventory and distribute vessel equipment manuals and certificates
  • Assist with tank sounding tube and level gauge surveys
  • Assist with prelaunch and predelivery deadweight surveys
  • Assist with hull marking surveys and underwater inspection documentation
  • Assist with sea trial preparations and possibly testing at sea
  • Assist with vessel spare parts coordination and documentation
  • Assist with asbuilt vessel drawings
  • Support department in miscellaneous technical projects
  • May be asked to temporarily support the shipyard's Hull Design (structure), Planning, or Quality Control Departments in various ship production activities
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent


  • Preferred College Majors:

  • Electrical Engineering, Eng.
  • Mechanical Engineering


  • Beginner

  • Limited or no previous work experience/first Coop
Intermediate - Some related work or volunteer experience/second Co-op
Advanced - Previous related work experience/final Co-op

  • Proficiency with MS Office and 2D CAD systems, such as AutoCAD
  • Experience with 3D modeling software, such as Tribon or Aveva Marine
  • Proficiency with metric system
  • Knowledge/experience concerning ship design
  • Knowledge/experience concerning modern shipbuilding practices

WORK ENVIRONMENT


Although the majority of the co-op's time will be spent in an office environment, they should also expect to perform regular field work in the shipyard's fabrication shops, dry docks and on-board vessels.

Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke.

Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

A range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, extended walking or standing, etc. is required. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.
