    Job summary:

    Camp Gambill is a year-round camp with 84 bedspaces and a strong waterfront program situated on approximately 60 acres along Lake Gibbons near Paris, Texas, and open since 1947. The Camp Program Coordinator is responsible for managing camper reservations, participation, and activities for overnight camp programs serving Girl Scout campers, volunteers, and families at our year-round camps through summer camp, weekend camping, and special events. This team member serves as the primary onsite leader of overnight camp experiences, with the goals of developing outdoor leadership skills in girls and providing a positive experience for all visitors. The position reports to the Camp Program Manager and is a member of a team serving four camp properties and developing innovative, dynamic outdoor opportunities for girls in grades K-12.

    Primary responsibilities include:
    • Design, plan, and implement weekend camping and summer camp program elements in alignment with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to build girls of courage, confidence, and character across our diverse membership
    • Serve as the primary onsite program leader for overnight weekend camping programs, including working independently with limited supervision, creating backup plans, and troubleshooting issues that arise
    • Independently manage lodging and activity bookings for overnight camp programming
    • Maintain a welcoming and purposeful environment to ensure positive and impactful visitor experience for diverse members, including providing excellent customer service prior to, during, and after camp programs
    • Coordinate "run of show" logistics of overnight camp programming, including lodging, activity offerings and badge work, equipment, supplies, visitor check-in and check-out, orientation, customer service, scheduling, volunteer engagement, and more for camp events in alignment with departmental procedures
    • Propose, adjust, and manage budget for assigned camp activities and events and confirm vendor orders and invoices
    • Plan and coordinate equipment, safety, and successful implementation for activities such as waterfront, target sports, crafts, and more
    • Contribute to the development and promotion of outdoor activities to increase member participation at camp
    • Partner with numerous departments to support marketing, registration, implementation, and evaluation of programming
    • Ensure safety, health, and security of all visitors to camp
    • Maintain compliance with ACA standards, state health department regulations, and Girl Scout policies and procedures, including maintaining health data privacy
    • Coordinate, train, and support seasonal staff and volunteers to lead program components, including planning and delegating duties
    Expectations:
    • This position generally works Wednesday through Sunday throughout the year (work days variable according to organization needs) and is expected to reside at camp in shared accommodations for work weekends and summer camp - willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, is essential
    • Willingness to be active outdoors in variable weather conditions all year, including walking around camp on uneven terrain and working outdoors in high heat
    • Willingness to be welcoming, respectful, enthusiastic, and professional with colleagues, members, and the public at all times
    • Obtain and maintain skills and certifications to support activities offered at camp, such as target sports, aquatics/lifeguarding, boating, and more
    • Develop expertise in the National Program Portfolio
    • Obtain and maintain first aid/CPR certification and food handler certification
    • Requires employee to manage administrative tasks in a variety of settings, including camp offices, check-in and check-out locations, and outdoor spaces throughout the year
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
    • Ability to address safety, weather, and other circumstantial changes with little notice
    • Must be able to travel within established geographic areas and council camps as necessary (position is based at Camp Gambill in Sumner, TX and will have times of travel to other camps in Pottsboro, Palestine, and South Dallas)
    • Must have reliable transportation, hold a valid drivers' license and meet GSNETX driving record & automobile insurance requirements
    • Performs other duties, as assigned
    • Position has variable hours, depending on organization's needs
    • The employee must sometimes lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
    • Must hold membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law
    • Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, before and after hours, and on weekends, when required
    • Must complete and pass a criminal background check
    • Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy, respect and professionalism to coworkers, parents, the volunteers served by this council, campers, and others with whom her/his job puts her/him in contact

    Qualifications

    Minimum requirements:
    • 2+ years of experience leading camp or outdoor recreation programming
    • Bachelors degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Experience working with youth
    • Extensive experience with waterfront activities, strong swimming skills, and highly comfortable in an open waterfront environment
    • Computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office programs
    Preferred qualifications:
    • Bachelors degree in recreation, environmental education, youth development, natural resources, or related field strongly preferred
    • History of waterfront lifeguard certification preferred (or prepared to obtain certification required)
    • Experience with camp activities, such as archery and target sports, boating, crafts, outdoor cooking, etc.
    • Experience with diverse audiences preferred
    • Project management experience preferred

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Activities occur both inside and outside and employee is subject to both environmental conditions; however, employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
