    Description
    Assists attorneys by investigating facts, preparing legal documents, performing e-discovery searches, or researching legal issues. Conducts research to support legal proceedings to formulate defenses, or to initiate legal action. Handles routine legal matters under the direction of the attorneys, primarily Director of Legal Services.


    This position is eligible to work hybrid (9 or more days a month onsite) in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy.

    Compensation

    $ $34.70


    • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The salary range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive salaries that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
    What you'll do


    • Review and analyze legal documents.
    • Screen incoming matters for priority attention and information to be collected for attorney assignment, analysis and response.
    • Assist Litigation Support Professional with litigation case files, managing Legal Hold Notices and monitoring enforcement of legal holds.
    • Assist attorneys with case investigation and fact development. Participate in witness interviews. Assist with deposition and hearing preparation.
    • Assist with collection of evidence.
    • Utilize e-discovery software/process. Maintain chain of custody and evidence documentation. Coordinate production of evidence to outside counsel. Prepare litigation exhibits.
    • Attend litigation proceedings, such as depositions and hearings. Assist attorneys and witnesses as needed.
    • In cooperation with attorneys, prepare correspondence to parties inside and outside of the company. Prepare Affidavits.
    • Work with attorneys and other parties to determine scope of response and deadlines. Coordinate response in accordance with Rules of Evidence, Rules of Procedure, and privacy laws.
    • Review bankruptcy notices and related documents.
    • Act as a liaison among various internal departments and outside counsel.
    • Assists Records Governance Team with development and implementation of records management policies, procedures, and education/training.
    • Assist attorneys with corporate governance and brand use filings.
    • Required to use personal computer up to 90% of the day.
    • Required to move boxes up to 25 lbs.
    • May have occasional travel out-of-town.
    What you need


    • Associate degree in paralegal studies or bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited college or university.
    • 3 years' experience as a paralegal or legal assistant.
    Bonus if you have


    • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules.
    • Proficient with Microsoft operating products, Westlaw research (or similar research tool), and Adobe.
