Job Objectives:


  • Improve safety, quality and profitability of shop operations: manufacturing, fabrication, service, installations and paint.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to Hews employees.
  • Improve work and business processes to maximize operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and productive culture based on excellence, teamwork, integrity, and accountability.
  • Manage the South Portland Manufacturing, Service, Parts, and Facilities Departments, and coordinate with the Bow, NH Branch Manager to ensure smooth workflow and service quality overall.
  • Ensure consistently high levels of customer satisfaction by ensuring effective policies, smooth processes, and exceptional customer service.
  • Develop and direct the implementation of skilled technical jobs and assure that service and repairs are performed correctly, efficiently, and safely.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Direct and supervise the activities of the operations group to achieve preset performance levels in terms of quantity and quality of work produced, including onsite training, scheduling, establishing goals, standards and evaluations. This includes supervisory management of the Production, Parts, and Service personnel.
  • Review all current operational procedures and work to maximize the efficiency of the facility as well as the management of materials and supplies.
  • Work with the Parts and Service teams to supervise the inventory control system.
  • Implement and oversee safety policies, rules and regulations.
  • Work with the Facilities Manager to ensure all equipment and vehicles are maintained as required and downtime is minimized.
  • Propose and lead capacity expansion projects as dictated by business needs.
  • Track productivity for labor and material costs, using the company's financial accounting software, and provide regular updates to the Hews Company executive managers.
  • Ensure accurate paper flow and record keeping throughout departments.
  • Review monthly financial statements and assist in developing the annual budget.
  • Establish and implement production/service goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that the Sales and Production Departments submit accurate quote packets to maximize workflow efficiency.
  • Develop relationships with key customers to ensure their needs are being met.
  • Plan and monitor Crane and ASE training and certifications.

Qualifications:


  • 35 years of prior operations and business leadership experience in a similar industry
  • Strong problemsolving skills with good technical and business judgment
  • Proven ability to influence positive change
  • Direct knowledge and experience in the areas of welding, hydraulics, metal fabrication, cranes, and/or auto repair service
