_Lead Camp Counselor _
Reporting to the Director of Camp and Recreation, the Lead Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting with development, planning and execution of year-round camp programming, taking place within various settings.
This will include, but is not limited to, outdoor and indoor camp programming, community-based field trips, orchestrating various camping equipment/activities, etc.
The Lead Camp Counselor is tasked with the overall success of the year-round programming, which will mínimally include Spring Break camp sessions, and Summer Camp sessions.
Additionally, the Lead Camp Counselor is responsible for the overall safety and wellbeing of all of the campers. They will also be responsible for educating the campers on activities and mies.The Lead Camp Counselor will work to ensure a fun, welcoming and safe environment for the campers and our staff.
They will be an exceptional role model for our campers and staff.The Lead Camp Counselor will follow and implement all Arc Morris policies and procedures, modeling positive behavior, and having an overall positive attitude.
They will also establish positive lines of communication with the campers, staff, and guardians.
The Lead Camp Counselor will also execute some administrative duties, specifically relating to annual licensing of the camps with state/local municipality requirements, and maintaining necessa1y person supported files.
Additionally, the Lead Camp Counselor may work closely with Human Resources, Finance, Development, and Intake to ensure a team approach for successful programming.
While this is not a supervisory role, the Lead Camp Counselor must be able to motivate and lead the staff and campers at all times.
The Lead Camp Counselor must have strong interpersonal skills, as they will be in the community interacting with families, potential campers, and other community partners/constituents to raise awareness around the various programming offered.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership:
- Mentor a team of camp counselors to provide a high level of emiching and engaging programming
- Provide guidance and support to ensure a positive and safe experience for campers
Program Development:
- Plan and implement ageappropriate activities and programs for campers
- Ensure programs align with camp goals and objectives
- Engage the community in identifying campers to participate in various programming
Safety and Risk Management:
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of campers at all times
- Follow established protocols and procedures for emergencies and incidents
Communication:
- Communicate effectively with parents, campers, and other staff members
- Keep accurate records and reports
Camper Support:
- Provide guidance and support to campers with special needs or challenges
- Foster a sense of community and inclusivity among campers
Daily Operations:
- Assist with daily operations, including camper arrival and departure, meal times, and activity transitions
Staff Development:
- Participate in staff training and development opportunities
- Mentor and support new staff members
Collaboration:
- Work with other lead counselors and the camp director to ensure a cohesive and successful camp program
Role Modeling:
- Demonstrate positive values and behaviors for campers and staff
- Promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, and teamwork
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Camp and Recreation, or other senior staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a high school diploma.
- Experience working in an IDD field.
- Must be First Aid and CPR Certified.
- Ability to drive a multipassenger van.
- Proven experience as Camp Counselor or similar role.
- Have familiarity with camping and various outdoor activities.
- Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Have an energetic and positive personality.
- Have excellent time management skills.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must have a high professional demeanor, flexibility, adaptability and adhere to a high level of confidentiality.
- Be able to give instructions and cany out instructions.
- Ability to manage multiple activities at the same time.
- Must be able to work as a Team player and lead by example.
Job Types:
Full-time, Temporary
Pay:
$45, $50,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Holidays
- Overtime
- Weekends as needed
