JOB SUMMARY


The Instructional Assistant supports the EPIC Teachers by working with adult students to provide supplemental small group instruction and tutoring support at the high school level.

At times, the IA may utilize remote instruction from learning centers throughout the state of California.

The Instructional Assistant must possess preparation in teaching a culturally diverse population using language acquisition strategies utilizing synchronous and asynchronous instruction.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES **includes, but not limited to the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Assists students and teacher both inperson and online.
  • Assists teachers in the implementation of individualized learning plans for all students, including those with bilingual/bicultural instructional needs.
  • Tutors individuals and small groups to reinforce student learning.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of specialized instructional materials, including all online programs used in the classroom.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of student records and files.
  • Assists with testing administration and scoring as assigned.
  • Assist with the implementation of short term and longterm independent study.
  • Requisitions, stores, distributes, and maintains an inventory of educational instructional materials.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of a learning environment appropriate to the special instructional requirements of students.
  • Uses a second language and provides cultural experiences to assist students with bilingual/ bicultural needs.
  • May serve as a translator to facilitate communication with monolingual, nonEnglish speaking students.
  • Assists students in operating technology necessary for successful completion of assignments and courses.
  • Assists with developing and updating schedule and instructional plans for support staff and substitute use.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, and second language usage as appropriate to the assignment.

  • Knowledge and consistent practice of policies and procedures for FIELD and EPIC.
  • Knowledge and consistent practice of the ethical guidelines as outlined by FIELD and federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
  • Skill in managing and promoting positive student behavior.
  • Skill in data analysis to assess, monitor, and inform instruction for student growth.
  • Skill in organizing, time management, and record keeping.
  • Possess the skills needed to learn and utilize software and other technology required to facilitate online instruction as applicable.
  • Ability to effectively address and meet a wide range of academic, social/emotional and developmental needs for all types of learners.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team setting.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have tuberculosis (TB) clearance or obtain TB clearance before beginning work.
  • Must be able to pass fingerprinting (Live Scan) and criminal record clearance by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, English, Spanish, Education, or Mathematics required.
  • Previous experience working with rural farm working communities preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must have valid driver's license and personal automobile insurance.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to travel as needed/required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Bilingual in Spanish is required.
