The Captain holds the helm of our vessels, ensuring safe and efficient operation while providing leadership to onboard employees. This role requires a mariner with comprehensive navigation skills, leadership qualities, and a commitment to exceptional guest service.

The captain serves as the primary contact with the USCG, overseeing compliance with all laws and regulations and administering training and drills to ensure crew and vessel readiness.


Responsibilities:


  • Direct the vessel's activities, operating it safely and efficiently, and supervising the crew to ensure high standards of operation and guest service.
  • Act as the primary contact onboard for all USCG communications concerning compliance with maritime laws and regulations.
  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement among the crew.
  • Enhance guest experiences by coordinating with the events team for seamless operation of tours and special events.
  • Ensure the vessel is maintained to the highest standards, ready for inspections at any time.
  • Administer regular training sessions and safety drills, enhancing crew competency and preparedness.
  • Make informed decisions based on weather conditions, voyage planning, and guest safety.
  • Manage and maintain all required vessel documentation, including operational logs, maintenance records, and safety compliance reports.
  • Provide leadership in emergency response situations, ensuring the safety and security of guests and crew.
  • Uphold Starship Tours & Events' reputation through professional conduct and adherence to company standards.
  • Report all injuries, illnesses, and near misses in a timely manner
  • Additional job duties assigned.

Qualifications:


  • HS Diploma/degree, or equivalent of experience, from an accredited institution
  • Valid U.S.C.G. license endorsed as Captain of Motor Vessels of at least 100 gross tons upon Inland Waters, and ability to maintain
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card), and/or ability to obtain and maintain
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification, and/or ability to obtain and maintain
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Possess and demonstrate superior judgment, analytical ability, performance under pressure and other skills necessary during routine operation or emergency response aboard a motor vessel.
  • Thoroughly understand all pertinent regulations and laws under which the vessel operates
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively interact with the passengers, guests, and fellow employees
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to develop and execute innovative solutions to crew management
  • Logically and independently plan, organize, and complete work assignments
