The Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Space, Intelligence and Weapons Systems (SI&WS) division is seeking an innovative, self-reliant, and highly motivated
First Line Satellite Payload Mechanical and Wire Harness Engineering Design Manager to lead and support the function for Satellite Systems programs located in
El Segundo, CA.

Position Responsibilities:


  • Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of Spacecraft Layout Engineering.
  • Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Spacecraft Wire Harness Payload Mechanical Design and Engineering.
  • Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures, and sets operational goals.
  • Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers, and leads process improvements.
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.
  • Manages, develops, and motivates employees.
  • Execution of the engineering statement of work on current and future Satellite System's contracts in the area of spacecraft layout and wire harness engineering with a focus on firsttime quality, ontime engineering, cost and schedule.
  • Inspire and champion creativity, innovation, affordability, and organization initiatives.
  • Provide direct management and technical oversight of engineering, technical approaches, and processes.
  • Manage all staffing needs, determine critical skills, forecasts, obtains and manage personnel, facilities, services, equipment, and tools to meet project and organizational needs.
  • Champion employee recognition, increase employee satisfaction, and ensure workplace safety.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partners (program managers, IPTs, customers, etc.).
  • Convey organizational messages, business vision, and strategies to employees.
  • Proactively communicate with leadership, peers, team, and customers.
  • Coach, counsel, mentor, actively listen to employees' concerns/suggestions, and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance performance of employees.
  • Develop and executes integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives.
  • Lead team in analysis, test, and certification of space flight hardware designs.
  • Lead team that will perform spacecraft layout, RF transmission line, and wire harness design using well defined CAD tools and processes (CREO-Parametric, CREOView, and homegrown tools) to develop the spacecraft configuration that meets program and mission requirements.
  • Lead team that will perform spacecraft electrical wire harness design using standard design tools and processes (Mentor Graphics Capital Suite).
  • Lead team to ensure compliance to all systems RF, harness systems, mission environmental, and design requirements.
  • Ensure team engages and collaborates with cross functional partners to ensure the design closes.
  • Support supplier hardware development, production, and test activities, to ensure hardware that integrates with designs and meets overall system/vehicle requirements.
  • Manage current and future staffing needs including critical skills, forecasts, facilities, services, equipment, and tools required to meet project and organizational needs.
  • Emphasize/mange firsttime quality, ontime engineering, affordability, innovation, and risk/opportunity management.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
