The research of Caroline Jefferies, PhD, is focused on understanding the role that RNA/DNA sensing mechanisms in monocytes and neutrophils play in driving autoimmune disease.
The lab's main area of focus is understanding these pathways in lupus, a debilitating, chronic autoimmune disease that presents as a broad spectrum of symptoms and manifestations.
The Jefferies Lab seeks a Research Associate II with an interest in performing routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures.
The RA II will develop technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects and will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, to include, but not limited to; investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and report findings.
The Associate will perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of laboratory research projects.
The incumbent will observe and comply with safety standards and procedures, assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance.
Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results and helps in identifying and troubleshooting of unexpected results.Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations.
Maintains lab equipment and related records and may coordinate use of lab equipment.
Assists in the operation of specialized equipment, as required by the area of research.
Orients Research Laboratory Assistants or lower-level Research Associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.
The incumbent will work with a team to characterize UV-induced skin disease in animal models on the following:Conducting animal experiments to assess how UV contributes to skin disease in Lupus.
Setting up models to assess lung inflammation in lupus – including air liquid interface cultures, making precision cut lung slices to analyze inflammation.
Other laboratory analysis as appropriate such as RT-PCR, IF, and Western blotting.Bachelor's degree in a Science related field, required.
One year of laboratory experience, required.
Immunology or cell biology lab experience preferred.
Experience with routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization.
Must have outstanding interpersonal, communication and organization skills to work across company subject areas and functional units, and computer application experience.
