  • The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA), led by The Adjutant General, provides emergency management and military capabilities to the citizens of Arizona and the nation. The Emergency Management Division consists of three sections—operations, preparedness, and financial administration. Each section works collaboratively across the agency and with external partners to manage emergency responses and reduce the impacts of disasters. Additionally, DEMA is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard, the primary combat reserve of the United States military. The Arizona Army and Air National Guard provide military forces and equipment to accomplish community, state, and federal missions._

Job Summary:
Under general supervision, provides janitorial services, concentrating on heavy work environments with various types of floor surfaces.

Cleans walls and windows; sweeps and mops floors; vacuums carpeting; cleans all restrooms and assists with inventorying, ordering and distributing job related supplies.

Manages hazardous waste that is generated in the work area to include such tasks as identification, storage, labeling containers, and clean-up of small quantity spills.

May work with DOC crews or individuals to accomplish tasks in and around buildings to include furniture installation, relocating furniture, snow removal, etc.

Operates forklifts in warehouse operations in support of shipping and receiving activities for the organization.


Job Duties:

Responsibilities include:


  • Empty trash, sweeping, wet mop floors and clean fixtures in all bathrooms. Supply soap, toilet paper and paper towel in all dispensers throughout buildings.
  • Empties wastepaper baskets, vacuums carpets, sweep, dust mop, wet mop, strip, wax, buffs floors and steps for all buildings/offices/common areas.
  • Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, windowsills, window blind/frames, registers, doors, walls and interior.
  • Inventories janitorial supplies and maintains appropriate stockage levels. Distribute supplies to all buildings and clean assigned equipment.
  • Use DOC crew or individuals to supplement workforce to carry out special tasks (furniture relocation, snow removal, etc.)
  • Operates forklift in support of shipping and receiving activities in a warehouse setting. Loads and unloads delivery vehicles and moves items between building using forklifts.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5%10%)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:


  • Cleaning procedures, sanitation, and safety.
  • The operation of powered cleaning equipment.
  • Chemical reactions between cleaning products.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions and procedures required.
  • Safety in forklift operations.

Skilled in:


  • Effective use of powered cleaning equipment.
  • Application of cleaning methods and techniques.
  • Rotating and storing cleaning supplies.
  • Lifting techniques to avoid injuries.
  • Effective writing and verbal communications.
  • Operating Forklifts in warehouse setting.

Ability to:


  • Organize and manage time effectively.
  • Record, report and order expendable supplies and equipment inventories.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Read, write, and speak and understand the English language.

Selective Preference(s):

  • Minimum 34 years' experience working in the custodial, janitorial or housekeeping environment.
