    As a Mental Health Specialist at Fairview Hospital, you'll play a key role in delivering direct patient care under RN supervision, executing structured programs tailored to pediatric patients' needs, actively engaging with the interdisciplinary team, and assisting in maintaining a conducive environment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Plan and coordinate group programs, encompassing various activities that cater to individual and collective patient needs, under the guidance of the Therapeutic Program Coordinator.

    • Create a nurturing and supportive atmosphere for patients by establishing boundaries, offering encouragement, and promoting interactions that enhance self-esteem, interpersonal skills, problem-solving capabilities, and more.

    • Collaborate effectively with the treatment team by sharing clinical insights and patient observations.

    • Communicate in a non-judgmental manner, employ active listening techniques, and demonstrate skills in paraphrasing and asking open-ended questions.

    • Record patient behavior, interventions, and responses in the Epic system.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities fields like Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or Child Development.

    Certifications:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).

    • NAPPI certification to be completed within the designated period after hiring.

    Complexity of Work:

    • Demonstrate proficiency in various areas including lifespan development, therapeutic processes, behavioral management, and building therapeutic relationships.

    • Interact professionally, ethically, and compassionately with patients, families, and fellow staff members.

    • Possess critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.

    • Capable of functioning effectively in high-pressure environments and taking appropriate actions as needed.

    Work Experience:

    • Prior experience in mental health is highly preferred.

    • Experience in group facilitation is strongly advantageous.

    • Familiarity with CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care principles and interventions is beneficial.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to perform a wide range of physical motions, including patient handling, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

    • Capable of standing and walking for extended periods.

    • Normal range of vision and hearing required.

    • Readiness to work in stressful conditions and flexible hours.

    • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

    • Medium Work involving lifting and moving objects.

    • Demands exceed those of Light Work.

    Personal Protective Equipment:

    • Adhere to standard precautions and utilize necessary protective gear.
