Job Summary


The Manager monitors and provides supervision to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in a DDM program (Group Home, Day Services, Community Engagement, etc.).

This includes coordination of services and supports for all individuals receiving DDM services, such as maintaining a safe and inclusive environment, providing opportunities for individuals to maximize physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual growth.

The Manager models a person-centered philosophy, strengths-based approach, celebration of abilities, and provides coaching, teaching, and mentoring to DSPs. The Manager is responsible for coordinating day-to-day operations of the program including overall supervision, scheduling, and training of DSPs.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Human Services or related field, preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with IDD
  • Supervisory experience in a Human Services or related field
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional leadership, emotional maturity, and patience necessary to understand and support the social, psychological, and emotional needs of individuals with IDD
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, computer skills
  • Ability to provide timely response to oncall responsibilities
  • Ability to travel, occasionally overnight
  • Acceptable driving record and valid driver's license
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Ability to represent the agency in the community in a positive manner

Position Responsibilities & Work Schedule
This position is based within a HopeTree program setting (Group Home or office-based). This role is one of presence, requiring the Manager to be on-site and engaged in day-to-day operations. Travel is required for training and regularly-scheduled team meetings. The typical work schedule is Monday - Friday 8:30a - 5:00p and includes 24-hour on-call responsibilities.

There will be occasions when the Manager is required to provide coverage or support with an emergency situation during evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday hours.

Flexibility is granted to the regular schedule when communicated in advance with the Regional Director that adjustment is needed based on such situations, provided there is adequate coverage of the program.


Duties of the role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides day-to-day oversight to ensure appropriate staffing levels and activities that promote an organized and positive environment. Twenty-four hour emergency availability for DSPs.
  • Makes independent decisions in regards to best practices, quality assurance, risk management and problem solving.
  • In partnership with supervisor, has working knowledge of 12VAC35105; 12VAC35115; and 12VAC This includes promoting rights, reporting serious incidents and general compliance with all regulations, DDM Policies/Procedures, and HTFS Employee Handbook. Demonstrates working knowledge of and complies with DDM policy on Handling Participant's Funds and Business Office Procedures; DDM System to Prevent Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation; and DDM Code of Ethics.
  • Is able to model and coordinate personcentered, least restrictive and communityintegrated philosophies and supports.
  • Organizes and ensures timely assessment in all aspects of an individual's life. This includes coordination with CSBs and other providers to assess risks, abilities, SIS, medical needs and identification of generic as well as HTFS supports.
  • Promotes an active circle of support, including the individual, AR, family members, and staff that work closest with the individual to collaborate and advocate annually and as needed to develop independence and services in the least restrictive environment. Ensuring communication as needed within the circle of support and with supervisor.
  • Develops a written reflection of the goals and supports identified in number 5 (above) consisting of thoughtful and meaningful activities directed towards independence, community integration, healthy lifestyle, and wellness. Ensures timely submission to Regional Director and Billing & Enrollment Specialist.
  • Ensures the completion and/or review of required documentation including development of measurable goals and methods to achieve goals; quarterly reviews; modification of goals with any change in condition or circumstance; assessment of success; and required daily/weekly/monthly progress notes and accurate support services records.
  • Coordinates with supervisor to hire Direct Support Professionals who will work best in the environment and will best meet individuals' needs. Ensures timely submission to all parties as required by regulation and DDM policy.
