Main Purpose of Job:

The main purpose of this job is to gather facts, and to prepare investigative reports to aid in the resolution of complaints filed with the Maryland Real Estate Commission by consumers against real estate licensees.

The position also requires providing testimony in administrative hearings and on occasion testimony in criminal prosecutions.


POSITION DUTIES:


Duties of this position include, but not limited to:

  • Investigates real estate complaints filed by consumers against real estate licensees, using interviewing skills and techniques, a thorough knowledge of real estate practice, real estate laws, real estate documents, meets with the parties to complaints, prepares a thorough written report of findings, responds to telephone inquiries and manages an investigative case load.
  • Meets with Department counsel to review claims, complaints nd investigative reports to ensure that all pertinent documentations in included.
  • Testifies at administrative, regulatory hearings, civil trials and criminal trials representing the Maryland Real Estate Commission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.


Experience:

One year of experience conducting investigations of alleged non-compliance with state laws and regulations, which govern the licensing and practices of business occupations and professions.


DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience investigating regulatory complaints.

Experience interviewing individuals.

Experience testifying at administrative, civil and/or criminal hearings.

Ability to write detailed investigative reports.


LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle.

Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Upon appointment, employees in this classification possessing a business occupational and professional license or participating in any outside activity which may be deemed a conflict of interest by the Secretary of the Department of Labor will be required to put the license and/or outside activity in an "Inactive" status.
