    TRUSTS AND ESTATES PARALEGAL

    Rubin and Rudman is seeking a self-motivated, experienced Trusts and Estates Paralegal to assist the attorneys in the Trusts and Estates Department with the smooth functioning of the Department. The Paralegal will draft and interpret legal documents and reports while maintaining positive contact with attorneys and staff and observe confidentiality of client and firm matters.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Draft, read, and interpret legal documents, including trustee appointments and resignations and trust amendments.
    • Responsible for administering estates, including estates with complex assets and trusts requiring post-death administration.
    • Prepare and file probate court documents.
    • Collect assets, value assets, transfer property to beneficiaries, and fund formula distributions to marital and exemption trusts.
    • Produce formal and informal summaries, accountings, and status reports.
    • Assist with gathering information necessary for the preparation of fiduciary income tax returns for estates and trusts.
    • Preparation of estate tax returns, determine tax filing deadlines and ensure all filings are timely.
    • Process statements, receipts and distributions for estate and trust accounts.
    • Address client inquiries in a timely and effective manner.
    • Oversee and facilitate changes within trusts due to death of grantor, including termination of existing trusts, funding subsequent trusts and all matter related to such transitions including obtaining new taxpayer identification numbers and assist custodian of assets to properly open new accounts.
    • Be a reliable, responsive, confident resource to attorneys, fiduciaries and family members throughout the estate administration process.
    • Assist with other tasks and projects as requested or needed.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of legal and financial principles normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
    • More than three years of paralegal experience in estate and trust administration, preferably in a law firm, bank or corporate trustee firm.
    • Firm understanding of Federal and Massachusetts estate tax returns, estate planning techniques and trust administration/
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, e-val, pro system fx.
    • Excellent project management skills, including well-organized, diligent at follow-up, self-directed follow-through, and able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication.
    • Professional attitude, reliable and strong work ethic.
    • Experience working directly with high net worth clients and their outside advisors (attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, life insurance agents)
    • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment, including the ability to build collaborative working relationships with other paralegals, attorneys and staff.
