Description

We seek a Controller who will oversee and coordinate all company-wide financial operations, ensure financial processes function efficiently, and provide direction to managers responsible for financial activities for the Maine subsidiary of a national newspaper organization.

Directs the company's treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, and insurance activities. This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and coordinates activities with the group CFO. Provides financial leadership, vision, and direction to managers responsible for financial activities within the firm.


Responsibilities:


  • Manage daytoday accounting operations such as payroll processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow management, month end closing
  • Drive the company's financial planning by analyzing its performance and risks
  • Prepare financial statements to ensure they are accurate and comply with GAAP
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and Federal taxes
  • Oversee all audit and internal control operations, develop and implement accounting policies
  • Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance monthly, quarterly, and annually
  • Hire, train, and develop administrative and accounting staff
  • Develop budgets for departments within the company based on projected revenue and expenses
  • Management, coordination, and negotiation of all firm insurance policies
  • Financial management of office leases and collaboration with principals on negotiations for expansion, relocation, etc.

Supervision and Delegation:


  • Ability to effectively communicate with all staff, clients, and consultants
  • Ability to professionally communicate verbally and in writing to give assignments to others

Minimum Requirements:


  • Proven experience as a controller, director of finance, or a similar role
  • Indepth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles and best practices
  • Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting and budgeting
  • Experience with integration of acquired companies is a plus.
  • QuickBooks Online or experience with a similar system required
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • BS/BA in accounting, finance, or relevant field; MBA is a plus
