Position Summary
The Lead Systems Engineer – Diagnostics defines and drives the diagnostic architecture across embedded automotive platforms. You will drive the strategy for fault detection and reporting (DTCs, Freeze Frames) on-board communications (CAN, UDS, J1979/J1939), and interface control – translating product goals into clear, testable system requirements. You will guide cross-functional teams through design reviews, FMEAs, and integration to ensure robust coverage, traceability, and release readiness.
Key Responsibilities

· Define requirements for DTC strategy, service implementation, OBD-II/J1979 behaviors, and failure mode logic.
· Host technical discussions/design revies; drive FMEAs and ensure requirements to test traceability.
· Plan and execute complex diagnostic deliverables from concept through validation and release. Manage field updates.
· Calibrate diagnostic thresholds and ensure successful feature integration.
· Partner with embedded software, validation, and hardware teams to align features, thresholds, and test coverage.
· Build and maintain diagnostic test plans, scripts, and acceptance criteria; analyze data and coverage results.
· Mentor systems engineers, review work products, and manage change control.
· Balance innovation with pragmatic solutions; document decisions and risks clearly for stakeholders.
· Lead root-cause analysis of field/service/manufacturing/design issues.
Required Qualifications
· B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering or related field.
· 7+ years in embedded control systems with proven experience in diagnostics and systems engineering.

· Strong systems experience – requirements, ICDs, FMEAs, traceability, test coverage.
· Effective cross-functional leadership; strong communication and coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master's degree in engineering or related field.
· Hands-on experience with engine tuning, calibration tools, or dyno/vehicle testing.
· Familiarity with CAN, UDS, and other automotive communication protocols.
