THE TEAM


Our America's events team supports oil and gas industry events such as training courses, workshops, symposiums, forums, and conferences occurring in Canada, USA and Latin America including the SPE flagship event ATCE and the OTC portfolio of events.

THE OPPORTUNITY
This role sets the strategic direction and leads the implementation of the SPE events portfolio in the Americas region.

This position works closely with key industry stakeholders, senior executives within the oil and gas industry, international member committees and other SPE Event Directors, Senior Managers and Department Heads.

The position is responsible for financial oversight for all designated SPE event budgets.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE IN THIS ROLE

  • Support strategic development of event goals and objectives in the Americas.
  • Oversee the organization and delivery of all SPE events in the Americas with the aim of producing outcomes that are financially successful and create high member and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Work closely with the OTC (Offshore Technology Conference) Board of Directors to implement their strategic vision for OTC events.
  • Manage an Events team of 25 people plus the Sales team of 4 people ensuring that Events and Sales teams contribute to the proactive marketing of the society to encourage section and membership growth.
  • Develop and support the society's strategic alliances and partnerships across the Americas through ongoing dialogue with the society's regional directors, society members and dignitaries. Liaise with energy operating, service, supply, and manufacturing companies on matters related to the society's interests and activities.
  • Provide support to the SPE US Advisory Council by overseeing the preparation of meeting agendas, presenting comprehensive reports on revenues and expenditures, sharing SPE's international strategic plan and other initiatives, whilst also seeking their guidance on developing SPE's initiatives in the US, along with any other relevant items.
  • Define and manage projects, work plans and scheduling with budget oversight and financial reconciliations as needed.
  • Prepare, develop, and submit comprehensive event budgets, closely monitoring results /actuals against plans and budgets. Implement effective cost control procedures to minimize expenses in all operating areas.
  • Carry out supervisory tasks to include recruiting, hiring, and training of staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; coordinating staffing/project schedules; addressing complaints and resolving issues; coaching, mentoring and developing staff; as well as providing recommendations for process and performance improvements.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERTISE

  • Bachelor's degree and/or significant experience of planning large scale conferences and exhibitions.
  • Leadership experience and demonstrated abilities in business development, relationship building and negotiation.
  • Significant experience negotiating contracts with hotels and vendors from various industries.
  • Strong financial planning and budgeting skills.
  • Familiarity with special terminology related to conferences and exhibitions, member services, finance, publications, public relations, and administration.
  • Experience with Windows standard software, event management software.
