    POSITION SUMMARY:

    As a key member of the dynamic Foundation Relations team, the Foundation Relations Projects Manager, will report to the Director of Foundations. This role will advance the foundation portfolio that supports institutional priorities such as clinical initiatives, programs, research, and education at Boston Medical Center (BMC). This position will drive projects that propel the foundation relations strategy and revenue with a focus on cultivation and stewardship.

    The Foundation Relations Projects Manager will support the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundations and will work closely with the Director of Foundation Relations and Grant Officers to advance funders along the giving cycle and ultimately secure philanthropic gifts and grants. The Foundation Relations Projects Manager will partner with frontline fundraisers on management of key projects and deliverables to boost the Foundations Relations team's overall capacity to generate revenue.

    The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong political sensitivities and excellent judgment; skilled project manager able to drive multiple projects forward while working with many stakeholders; and a detail oriented and highly motivated individual. They will ideally possess some knowledge around public health initiatives or health care systems. This is a highly interactive role which requires initiative, problem solving, and creativity in addition to effective communication skills, organization, and strategic planning. This position requires the ability to play an active behind the scenes role in leadership.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

    • Lead the preparation of foundation grant proposals, including writing letters of inquiry, concept papers, and proposals; develop budgets and budget justifications; prepare collateral materials; and ensure compliance with award requirements.
    • Strategize with investigators and program leaders about proposal from ideation to submission, creating gift and grant opportunities that align with institutional priorities and providing advice upon hand-off to the team focused on execution of the complex gift/grant funded project.
    • Collaborate with grant writers/officers and Development Communications to create gift opportunities that are donor focused and institutionally aligned.
    • Build and refine grant cycle initiatives (e.g., tracking each phase) with thoughtful intention while aligning with Development and hospital strategy.
    • Improve upon new and existing systems and leverage the functionality of NXT by working collaboratively across the Foundation Relations team and Development Operations.
    • Ensure that all donor progress and impact reports and annual updates are submitted on time and with appropriate information and tracked in NXT.
    • Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships with administrative and clinical leaders across the organization.
    • Staff and manage planning for high level internal strategy meetings and handle the preparation of funder meetings/site visits from conception to follow-up (including the scheduling of tours and other needs of a successful meeting or visit).
    • In partnership with frontline fundraisers, attend and participate in meetings with funders, investigators, and administrative and clinical leaders, as needed.
    • Craft high level materials (e.g., decks, correspondence) independently. Edit and proofread written materials and verify the validity of data and documents contained therein prior to dissemination/submission.
    • Define project scope, goals and deliverables in collaboration with frontline fundraisers; proactively manage changes in project scope, identify and mitigate issues and delays, and communicate project progress and updates to team members and stakeholders.
    • Manage engagement and communication with third-party contractors/vendors that conduct prospect identification, prospect research and proposal writing.
    • Research and identify new potential funding sources for new and ongoing clinical initiatives, education programs and research.
    • Coordinate with BMC Sponsored Program Administration and the BMC Research Division, when appropriate. Interface with Legal to ensure compliance with all laws and BMC policies.
    • Approach all projects, meetings, and requests in a forward thinking manner; plan ahead to ensure projects assignments are properly managed, and ensure sufficient time for preparatory work and meetings to be completed; drive internal and external partners to move projects forward on time.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Five years of related experience. Philanthropy preferred. Health care, public health, social service, or research setting a plus.

    • Curiosity and continuous improvement mindset coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and flexibility.

    • Superior written and verbal communication skills; must effectively communicate in a highly professional manner and have comfort working with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as with outside clients and vendors.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including management and other departments.
    • Ability to problem-solve, triage, independently make decisions, and prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
    • Desire to learn and implement knowledge across assigned tasks and workflow.
    • Ability to pick up on and interpret nuances in conversations and correspondence.

    • Ability to manage up; comfort sharing perspective and analyses.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access, Outlook; knowledge of Blackbaud or other funder management platforms.
