Summer Teen Employment Program Supervisor

The Windsor Youth Services Bureau seeks a passionate supervisor for their award winning Summer Teen Employment Program (STEP). This position will focus on mentoring high school interns and developing their work ethic.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leading a crew of fifteen paid youth interns, landscaping and litter pick-up, small building projects, as well as, interacting with the public and running special community events.

Individuals must be able to develop a positive rapport with teens and thrive in a team environment. An associate's degree and experience with youth is required.

  • Instruct youth to perform daily tasks.
  • Facilitate teambuilding activities such as ice breakers.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Lead by example and actively participate in job tasks, team building, classroom and outdoor activities.
  • Have a positive mindset, teamwork attitude, and a passion to work with young adults.
  • Resilient to different work settings and changes in tasks or schedules.

Expectations:

  • This position will include outdoor physical labor for extended periods of time in hot weather.
  • Supervise, motivate, mentor and engage high school age youth during their paid internship with safety as the number one concern.
  • Works closely with the Police Department to carry out projects.
  • Ability to teach youth interns how to use electric power tools such as weed wacker and leaf blower, as well as manual tools such as a wheelbarrow, hammer, shovel, rake, etc.
  • Perform tasks alongside youth interns including but not limited to; gardening maintenance, trash removal, barn work, litter pick up, painting with a brush and roller, raking, shoveling, etc. in a safe manner.
  • Discuss relevant social and environmental issues as they relate to modern culture and personal responsibility.
  • Must be comfortable and confident communicating directly with staff, parents, and participants.
  • Some experience in event planning and interacting with the public during special community events.
  • Supervise youth in preparing, setting up and breaking down special community events. Tasks include moving tables and chairs, assembling tents, loading and unloading buses.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to operate a fourteen passenger bus.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR/AED certification, training will be offered.
Work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm


Starting date:
June 17, 2024, ending date: August 16, 2024.

Pay Rate $20 hourly
