GENERAL DEFINITION:
This is administrative and collections work providing support services to collections hearing officers.

A position in this class assists in the monitoring of payment agreements with criminal offenders, makes referrals of delinquent offenders to hearing officers for appointments or court lists, performs skip-tracing tasks when necessary, and has frequent telephone contact with delinquent offenders utilizing a predictive-dialing system.

A position in this class is differentiated from those in related classes by the incumbent's individual responsibility for the accomplishment of assigned duties and functions.

A position in this class reports to the chief collections hearing officer or other supervisory position.





TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  • Assists in monitoring of payment agreements made by criminal offenders. Reviews various reports to determine which offenders to refer for follow up. Schedules appointments for hearing officers, sends out various correspondences at direction of a hearing officer, researches bad addresses and performs Internet trace of delinquent offenders who are not locatable. Documents activities in the collections computer system.
  • Utilizes a predictivetelephone dialing system to contact delinquent criminal offenders.
  • Prepares the dialing system for downloading of files and development of calling lists.
  • Documents the results of the call in the collection system.
  • Prepares court documents for contempt charges relating to the nonpayment of costs, fines and restitution.
  • Attends court proceedings to receive payments, verify wage attachments, and take note of case disposition. Enters hearing results into collections computer system.
  • Assists in the training of newly hired hearing officer aides.
  • Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of the goals, objectives, principles and practices relating to the collection of delinquent accounts.
  • Knowledge of the criminal court system.
  • Ability to work with computers, software packages i.e. Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
  • One to two years experience in a collection environment and/or criminal justice related field.
  • Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail.
  • Able to multitask while working independently.
