Quality Safety & Documentation Specialist

  • Onsite position located in Hagerstown, MD
Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly, Days-Monday through Friday


Serves as a clinical/content expert, a role model and a resource for patients, families, clinical staff, nursing staff, physicians and the community in his/her area of expertise.

Coordinates, plans, evaluates the operations of programs, and ensures implementation of processes that includes collaboration with leadership and other members of the healthcare team.

Ensures process and/or program evaluation through collection, review, and analysis of data.

Performs concurrent and post discharge medical record reviews to ensure EHR documentation integrity and quality of care, accurately optimize the severity of illness and risk of mortality for reimbursement.

Develops and implements action plans, to include healthcare clinician education, according to outcome data. Collaborates with other disciplines using an integrated approach toward achieving optimal patient outcomes. Within scope of the job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with mínimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and takes appropriate action.

Education - Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field required. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master's degree in a healthcare related field preferred.


Experience - Minimum of three (3) years' experience in nursing, care management, utilization review, or quality resources experience in an acute care setting.

Broad-based clinical knowledge required. CDDS/CDIP and/or Quality Certification preferred.

Licensure/Certification - Quality and/or CCDS/CDIP certification not required upon hire. CCDS/CDIP Certification is required within 3 years from starting the role.

Nurse - Current license to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or if resident of a state that participates in Nurse Multi-State Compact agreement, holds Registered Nurse License from that state that is designated as "Compact" or "Multi-State Privilege" using primary source verification and provides additional documentation as required by the Maryland Board of Nursing.

RN License from a compact state with a designation of "Single State" does not meet the requirement and nurse must obtain a Maryland license.

Specialty certification preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow through skills. Detailed oriented with excellent organizational skills. Effective communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to exchange information and collaborate with a wide variety of individuals. Ability to complete projects timely and accurately is critical. Experience with computerized data entry, spreadsheets and key tools and systems such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Proficient in navigating clinical software to abstract information. Must be able to work independently and exhibit flexibility. Ability to respond to ever-changing needs and situations. Utilization of Lean methodology to support efforts in optimizing value and service.
