JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:
SATURDAY CUSTODIAL/SECURITY PERSONNEL


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT**:9 Months (school year)

Saturday 6am to 6:30pm


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must have High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a school custodian or the equivalent in the custodial service at other institutions and firms preferred
  • General knowledge of security
  • Able to perform such tasks as scouring sinks, furnishings, equipment, polishing mirrors, dusting furniture and mopping floors
  • Able to effectively operate vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, and other custodial equipment
  • Able to read, write and verbally communicate with administration and staff
  • Able to lift up to 50 lb. and transport materials (equipment, supplies, etc.) of that weight throughout the school
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Able to effectively navigate and operate cellphone, computer and district software
  • Must be CPR/AED certified, or be certified in the first few months of employment.

Geneva High School Campus Manager for Custodial Issues and Safety and Security Supervisor for Security Issues


JOB GOAL:
Maintain a safe and secure environment. Balance the need to protect students, staff, community, and property with the desire to create an environment that remains conducive to learning


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Safety and Security Supervisor, Campus Manager and/or Geneva HS Administrators

Building Check at beginning of shift
Perform repeated tasks in maintaining an assigned area of the school in an orderly, safe, and clean condition

Select materials and supplies from supply room, load utility cart and transport to work area. At the end of shift, return unused supplies and cart to custodial closet, clean cart and equipment, leaving closet in a clean and orderly condition

Report any mechanical failures or negative conditions as observed in the assigned area to supervisor

When available patrol the hallways to deter theft, vandalism, and illegal activity from occurring

Conduct patrol inspections of doors, roof access doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure

Provide traffic or crowd control for assigned events
Stop and question unauthorized persons, notify the appropriate administration and police when needed

Report all unauthorized usage of buildings and grounds to the Director of Facility
Operations and/or building principals. Approach and question outside community users for proper contracts and authorizations

Open and secure classrooms for those agencies who have contracts at our facility
Maintain an updated list for the District and/or assigned building of all facility contracts and activities

Respond to emergencies
Report any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical systems

Be a good example to students and community users as you represent the school


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


Daily Procedures

  • Unlock appropriate doors for scheduled activities/events/meetings and turn on lights as needed
  • Setup and/or cleanup for assigned Saturday athletic or academic events
  • Any rooms being utilized during the Saturday shift must be cleaned after use
  • Clean areas by wiping down door handles, washing furnishings, floors, and equipment with special cleaning solutions. Use dust cloths and vacuum cleaner to dust window sills, horizontal ledges, blinds, floor, and furniture. Empty wastebaskets, cleaning boards and arrange furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion. Scour and polish sinks, shower areas, water fountains, mirrors, and similar equipment
  • Stock supplies of soap, paper towels, and other dispensable items
  • Spot clean carpets, spot clean walls and other surfaces
  • Cleaning lockers and hallways that have graffiti or cobwebs
  • Relock doors and turn off lights after classrooms and events are complete
  • Check exterior doors so that they are secure

During shift hours:
