Description

Nationwide Skilled Trades is hiring shipfitters with approximately 4 or more years of experience laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting parts of structural metal products with the use of regular supervision and while always adhering to industry safety standards. Employee should be expert in laying out and fabricating metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, and bracing them in position within hull of ship for riveting or welding: mostly working from blueprints/ templates and using hand tools.

Requirements

DBIDS and NAVSEA Required
Pay rate is dependent on experience.
Minimum of 3-5 years' experience required.
Must pass a drug test and background check.
Possess a high school diploma or GED.

Required PPE: Steel toed boots, respirator, hard hat, and safety glasses.

Job Description

Read and Comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.
Needs to be able to tack weld with stick.
ABS & AWS joint design.
Needs to be energetic, on point and reliable.
General understanding of weld acceptance criteria.
Be able to use jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.
Needs to be able to pass testing that includes 2F 3F & 4F.
Should be able to work effectively without templates and blueprints.
Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts.
Tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, using shop machinery, such as plate rolls, presses, bending brakes, and joggle machines.
Aligns and fits parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers
Locates and marks workpiece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications
Positions or tightens braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting
