- Design, build, perform tests, and analyze optics/optoelectronics/photonics experiments in various systems and platforms for cutting edge devices in quantum communication, sensing, and precision positioning, navigation, and timing
- Perform laboratory and field tests to prove and validate quantum experimental theories as viable products in applicable domains, and benchmark results within the field
- Write proposals, publish papers, attend and present at conferences, and brief internal leadership and external customers
- Collaborate with other team members, engineers, and scientists across the company and different fields to leverage quantum technologies to achieve organizational goals
- Understand modeling and simulation and hardware and software in the loop testing methodologies
- Support existing research and development activities within the Sensing and Threat Response branch as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or related discipline with 4+ years of experience, Master's with 2+. or Ph.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to acquire a Top Secret security clearance.
- Experience in at least one or more of the following: electro-optics, EO sensor systems design, EO sensor performance modeling, hardware in the loop testing, quantum communications, quantum key distribution, remote sensing
- Experience developing and working within a laboratory environment.
- Experience with Matlab, Python, or other scientific and engineering software.
- Ability to author, present, and articulate requirements and associated solutions in settings supporting customers and business development.
- Current Top Secret clearance
- Peer-reviewed publications on relevant quantum technologies, and the desire to continue publishing as appropriate.
- Experience on government funded research and development contracts.
- Strong desire to learn new technologies and flexibility to change from one project to another quickly.

The Sensing and Threat Warning Branch within the Applied Sciences Division of the Leidos Innovation Center currently has an opening for a Research Scientist to support research and development activities in Dayton OH.
This work will involve close collaboration with Leidos teams across the country focusing on quantum technologies, including quantum optics, quantum communications and remote sensing.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $81, $146,875.00
