AFIT is the Air Force's graduate school of engineering and management, as well as its institution for technical professional continuing education.

Through their mission to develop and deliver systems engineering and management education, the education faculty rely on interns to support classroom training products, techniques, and tools.

Objectives of this effort are to:

• Conduct graduate-level research, engineering/technical analyses, technical evaluations, and assessments for AFIT
• Enhance AFIT's ability to execute their mission of conducting militarily-relevant research, delivering analytic tools to DoD organizations, and producing defense-related publications
• Provide scientific and technical analyses of military and commercial developments including design, development, testing, and evaluation of military-critical technologies

KBR is seeking a post-doctoral applicant to provide chemistry and data analytic support to AFIT Department of Systems Engineering & Management


Duties include:

• Assist with the evaluation of advanced oxidation processes in groundwater remediation systems. Determine transformation pathways, chemical kinetics, and reaction mechanisms. Data will be collected from laboratory experiments and computational chemistry software platforms.
• Carry out data mining and regression analysis on data retrieved from laboratory experiments and computational activities. Data analysis will identify rate constants and chemical byproducts.
• Participate in research group discussions, typically held each week.

The start date for this position is 26 July 2024.

Required Education/Experience

• BS in Chemistry
• 2+ years in environmental investigation and sampling (soil/water/sediment)
• Knowledge of waste water quality parameters under Clean Water Act (CWA), National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).
• Knowledge of groundwater remediation systems
• Published journal article author

Desired Education/Experience

• MS in Agricultural Chemistry and Soil Science
• 10+ years in environmental investigation and sampling (soil/water/sediment)
