_Outreach Coordinator (West LA VA Campus)_

_The West LA VA Outreach Coordinator for U.S.VETS is responsible for the coordination of the screening and intake process for new clients admitted to housing and programming. This position also requires substantial contact/collaboration with area agencies that provide services to the homeless and the housed, as well as outreach efforts to those veterans who are currently living on the West LA VA North Campus. The individual in this position reports directly to the Project/Executive Director. This position will also provide supervision to other outreach staff and/or volunteers as needed._

Responsibilities:


  • Possess an indepth working knowledge of the LA and West Los Angeles VA Veterans community, and area service providers including internal and external project partners
  • Connect homeless and atrisk veterans and their families with housing and supportive services
  • Is professional, tactful, and mindful of the local environment on the ground when interfacing with clients and partners alike
  • Support and uphold the principles of the program, communicating with Director, Case Managers and other staff regarding client issues when needed
  • Assure proper and timely communication with HUD/VASH Case Management and Veteran Services Coordinator while working with client cases
  • Conduct screenings of potential housing and services clients
  • Perform nonclinical assessments, interventions, and crisis resolution with clients
  • Facilitate housing intake and discharge processes
  • Identify goals of potential clients to assure suitability for Permanent Supportive Housing or other continuum programs
  • Track and maintain a database of clients served by the outreach process
  • Assure client compliance with requirements to include eligibility verification and documentation such as homeless status, veteran status, income status, etc.
  • Work with HUD/VASH Case Managers, compile mandatory housing intake documentation/verification and assure the file is complete with that documentation
  • Assure consistent and regular outreach efforts with area homeless service providers/agencies and community service partners
  • Plan, execute, and take part in community events, tracking an integrated events calendar to share with clients
  • Supervise Outreach staff and volunteers as needed, assisting in orientation and training of new staff
  • Provide regular updates, passing word to Program Manager, Operations Manager, and Executive Director regarding admissions, client developments, campus needs, changes, environment, discharges, etc.
  • Participate and contribute to weekly client staffing meetings, including reporting out on areas of responsibility
  • Plan, implement, support and troubleshoot Outreach staff training on issues of emergency management, safety, prevention, and other areas as needed and annually; Complete your own required U.S.VETS staff trainings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:


  • Bachelors degree in social services field or another related field preferred; Minimum of four years of relevant employment experience may substitute for degree requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in related field; Two years of employment at U.S.VETS may substitute for supervisory experience
  • Experience working with homeless and/or veteran population preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of clients, staff, and community members
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Leadership, conflict and emergency management skills
  • Demonstration of personal and financial integrity in the workplace
  • Ability to take direction, work independently with mínimal oversight, and to work within a team
  • Valid drivers license required; Must meet company insurance requirements and complete a provided driver training course
