The property Accounting Manager is a full-time, on property position that co-reports both to the property General Manager and to the corporate accounting department.
The Accounting Manager manages the daily operations of the Accounting Department and is responsible for ensuring that the financial controls, books, records, and reporting of the hotel are accurate, current and in compliance.
Responsibilities and Competencies:
Is responsible for the supervision, training, and administration of assigned staff.
Daily review of Night Audit Revenue Reports for accuracy and completeness.
Review of Ledgers
Miscellaneous postings
Revenue adjustments
Paid outs.
Reconciliation of cash deposits and credit card settlements.
Tax exemptions.
Manage the timely and accurate processing of accounts payable.
Review monthly statements and bank reconciliations for stale checks.
Determine if invoices are subject to Use Tax
Review GL coding using USALI as a guide for coding.
Manage the timely and accurate processing of accounts receivable.
Supervise and assist, if necessary, with processing biweekly payroll.
Supervise and assist, if necessary, with the general cashiering responsibilities.
Ensure accurate and efficient completion of month-end closing procedures and assist in preparing comprehensive monthly reports on the financial results of the hotel in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Prepares journal entries.On a monthly basis, prepares balance sheet reconciliations, complete with supporting back-up.
Ensure loans, franchise fees, taxes, insurances, and leases are all paid and reconciled in a timely manner.
Ensure that all tax checks are prepared and postdated on time.
Prepare electronic transfers as required by the recipient.
Participate in weekly accounting meetings with corporate accounting team.
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets.
Performs any/all special projects as assigned by General Manager and/or Corporate Accounting Department.
Minimum Requirements:
Ability to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of general accounting principles (GAAP).
3 + years of experience in hotel accounting or a related field.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Proven track record of successfully achieving financial results that can articulate the underlying strategies that led to the success of the property.
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and successfully work under pressure.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Positive attitude, despite changing market conditions and circumstances.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines for financial reports.
Must have a high degree of professional integrity and be able to work safely, effectively, and efficiently.
Must have skills in database, spreadsheet, or other accounting applications.
Organizational skills are required to maintain records such as inventory counts, payroll reports, bank statements, tax notices, etc.
Must have the ability to communicate, and the commitment to follow, all local and corporate policies and procedures.
