Duties
OVERVIEW Under general direction and supervision of the Dean of Student Engagement, the Assistant Dean of Academic Advising and New Student Orientation leads the college's processes and resources with new student onboarding through NSO, as well as holistic advising for new, continuing, specialized, and transfer-oriented students. The Assistant Dean of Academic Advising and New Student Orientation is dedicated to upholding the learning college principles by developing, coordinating, facilitating, and supporting programs and services that promote student success and lifelong learning.SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Establishes goals, continuous improvement objectives, and assessment plans.2. With the Dean of Student Engagement, develops and implements service delivery systems that provide timely and responsive attention to the onboarding, advising, college articulation, and transfer service needs of prospective and various currently enrolled student populations.a. Leads academic advising efforts in alignment with NACADA Core Competencies, the CAS Standards, and advising best practices.b. Ensures ethical practices in services, note taking, and reporting.c. Provides frequent trainings and updates to ensure Advisors have access to timely and relevant information.d. Review and resolve concerns and complaints related to advising services.3. Provides college and divisional leadership in the design, direction, and scheduling of New Student Orientation in collaboration with the Coordinator of New Student Onboarding.4. Performs administrative tasks necessary for program implementation. This includes, but is not limited to, budgeting, reporting, collaborating with other departments, and managing supervisory processes.5. Works in collaboration with other stakeholders on the scheduling of faculty for events and programming outside of the subdivision.6. Collaborates with advising faculty and other stakeholders to implement programs and services designed to support and retain students, including Educational Planning Sessions, interventions for specific student groups, and related workshops.7. Serves as a member of the college's Administrative Council and the Student Development Supervisor's Council. Represent the division and subdivision on committees and other cross-institutional efforts that support student success and retention.8. Maintains general knowledge of career and transfer programs, registration and graduation requirements as related to all academic programs and services. Education/Experience A master's degree in college student personnel, educational administration or related area is required. Minimum three years full-time supervisory leadership in higher education; with preferred experience in community college settings and an office that provides academic advising.
