This role sits in the global Corporate Affairs & Communications organization, reports to the VP, Financial & Policy Communications, and supports corporate communications counsel and service to American Express Company.


The Manager, will be a core member of the team that supports external and internal financial communications, including assisting with quarterly earnings announcements and media strategy pertaining to the company's overall business performance.


This position requires strong financial communications skills, media relations and crisis communications acumen, a high degree of focus on details, enterprise thinking, strategic industry knowledge, robust experience with issue management, team management and ability to forge strong working relationships across teams.


How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Quickly developing a deep understanding of American Express, its business and customers to find/create opportunities to tell the American Express story.
  • Support financial communications, including leading the quarterly Company earnings process, positioning, media relations, and materials.
  • Implementing executive positioning strategy, including the creation of content across media relations, employee communications, talking points, speeches, and presentations.
  • Fostering relationships with media, managing media request, and conducting media training with executives.
  • Overseeing monitoring, measuring and reporting on all financial media coverage of American Express.
  • Effectively and quickly creating/editing communications content (financial press releases, company statements, talking points, FAQs, etc.) to ensure alignment with American Express' corporate narrative.
  • Help craft American Express' corporate narrative, ensuring it distills our business objectives and reflects the work of each business unit.
  • Partnering effectively with communications colleagues to ensure consistency in messaging.
  • Serving as a relationship manager with public relations agencies and other external partners.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years communications/public relations experience with demonstrated ability to handle all types of media.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create connections across functions and levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proven media relations experience, with proven track record of exercising sound judgment and clear decisionmaking under tight deadlines.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills
  • Experience developing and implementing creative public relations and social media programs
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to thrive while managing multiple priorities in a fastpaced work environment
  • Excellent judgment
  • Strong analytical, strategic and creative skills
  • Experience managing public relations agency and vendor resources
  • Experience providing confident and persuasive counsel to clients
  • Excellent leadership skills, must be focused on process with an ability to build strong followership across the team and enterprise.

Salary Range:
$80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
