DESCRIPTION
The Janney Enrichment Program (JEP) Director is responsible for the leadership and direction of the JEP program.

The JEP program aims to provide a fun, diverse, affordable, and accessible program of after school classes for children from pre-kindergarten through 5grade.

The Director will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director of Janney+, the Director of Janney Auxiliary Care (JAC), and the Director of the Janney Elementary Language Program (JELP) to identify areas for collaboration and shared vision amongst staff.


The tour of duty for this position is 12-months, with the possibility for additional responsibilities as part of a contract addendum, should the JEP Director choose to take on a role with the Janney+ Summer Programs.

The position will follow a work schedule set in consultation with the ED, consistent with the operation of the Programs, to ensure supervision of the full day by the ED, Director or assigned designee.

Primary duties

  • Plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the policies and philosophies of Janney+, DCPS, Janney Elementary School, and the Janney PTA;
  • Ensure the safety of children and staff;
  • Implement staff meetings and professional development;
  • Develop and maintain staff schedules;
  • Assist in supervising and evaluating the performance of enrichment staff;
  • Maintain positive parentstaff and communityschool relationships;.
  • Identify and liaise with vendors including defining the Program scope and objectives, monitor and assess the quality of Program classes, and procure vendors for JEP semester classes, annual classes, private music and tutoring lessons, and inhouse Camp days;
  • Work with Janney+ Directors and Board to provide training and orientation for staff and vendors; define roles for employees so that all Janney+ employees are working toward a common vision and purpose
  • Advise class instructors on classroom management when needed
  • Monitor and report staff hours per pay period to the Janney+ HR Coordinator
  • Maintain an updated budget for the Executive Director and Janney+ Board no less than quarterly, ensure that each JEP class meets the required enrollment numbers and negotiate vendor contracts to ensure that each course meets the budget guidelines, approve program expenditures and maintain accurate records.
  • Manage the online registration system for each enrichment enrollment semester.
  • Manage vendor relationships such that session fees remain competitive, ensure that vendors are committed to the Janney+ schedule of classes, and that vendors offer highquality classes for students;
  • Respond to parent and/or community concerns and complaints through appropriate problem solving techniques;
  • Identify innovative ideas to continuously improve JEP in light of the Janney student body interests and needs;
  • Select and requisition necessary materials, supplies, food, and equipment;
  • Communicating and collaborating with families, school day administration, and the Janney+ team when student issues come up; supporting and developing plans to support students with differing needs.
  • Set clear expectations for students and guidelines for noncompliance.
  • Coordinate classroom usage for all JEP classes and sessions in conjunction with the Executive Director and other Janney+ Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Skills

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Education or related field, and at least 3 years experience in schoolbased care program administration, teaching or related field;
  • Proficient (and or easily trained) in the use of technology and computer software related to the running of the Enrichment Programs. This includes Microsoft Office, Paychex/Flex Platform, Campsite, and others as determined by the needs of the program;
  • Knowledge of basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics;
  • Knowledge of student behavior management strategies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ability to

  • Collaborate closely with Enrichment staff, vendors, and related staff, including the ED, and the Directors of the Janney Language and JAC Programs;
  • Maintain records, equipment, and facilities in an effective and efficient manner;
  • Budget time, money, and supplies in an effective and efficient manner;
  • Provide for the health, safety, and psychological needs of children;
  • Perform routine first aid and emergency treatment for ill injured students;
  • Support in emergency procedures
  • Supervise learning activities;
  • Provide guidance for children's routine activities;
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, staff members, and administrators;Communicate effectively, both
- orally and in writing;

  • Able to meet the physical demands of the job and pass the necessary DCPS Clearance process;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
