    Description

    Using brazing and cutting equipment and various power and hand tools, the pipefitter performs a variety of shop and shipboard pipefitter trade functions.

    These functions include the repair and/or removal of old structural materials; the installation and fit up of new structural materials and complete fabrication of complex fluid system piping and piping hangers and supports.

    Works under direct supervision and performs related work as required.

    Applies basic pipefitting and brazing processes to join, fabricate, or repair fluid system piping and associated hangers and supports.

    Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, and specification requirements to determine materials and construction process required to fabricate component parts to develop a complete unit as designed.

    May lay out and mark points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.

    Knowledge of the processes and procedures necessary for the proper removal of old equipment and piping systems with minimal damage to surrounding materials.

    Maintain certification in the brazing procedure(s) as required by Quality Assurance Manager.
    Participates in special projects as required.

    High School Diploma or GED, plus technical/vocational training or the equivalent combination.

    Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards
    Experience working in the marine welding/fitter trade gained through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training is preferred.
    Thorough knowledge of welding and brazing standards and brazing procedures.
    Current brazing Certification for Cu and CuNi piping materials.
    Advanced knowledge of Brazing tools and procedures.
    Work is typically performed in an industrial/shipyard work environment, and at field sites and client facilities.

    The work environment requires use of proper safety precautions and equipment; work requires some physical effort in the handling of heavy materials, boxes, tools, parts, or equipment and climbing vertical shipboard ladders.

    Applicant must be physically capable of performing standard marine welding/fitter tasks while working onboard ship.
