Position Summary


Shelter Support Team Members work to ensure a safe, secure, and supportive environment in residential shelters for participants who are victims of violence, abuse, and trauma.


Position Location:
New Bedford (A1)


Hours Per Week: 8 minimum


Schedule:
Saturtday, 7 am - 3 pm

(Will have the opportunity to add shifts to cover for others as needed )


Pay Rate:
$18.50 per hour (includes weekend differential pay) Hourly wages change dependent on day and hours.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain the safety and security of participants and their families, ensuring that shelter rules are followed.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations; communicate and document incidents in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of incident reports, logs, and other records.
  • Guard the privacy of participants' information in accordance with The Women's Center policies, procedures and as required by law.
  • Perform hourly "rounds" throughout the shift, making sure participants are safe.
  • Perform light housekeeping and laundry.
  • Respond to crisis and information calls.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Other duties as required.
The Women's Center will provide on-the-job training including CPR certification and first aid.


Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:


  • Selfdirected and able to work independently the sole staff person during the shift
  • Empathetic and vigilant; maintain confidentiality
  • Able to stay calm and use good judgment in tense, crisis situations; and work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturallydiverse populations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

Education and Experience:


  • Must have high school diploma or GED; college degree is desirable
  • At least 2 to 3 years' experience in social work or human services preferred
  • Experience working in a residential setting is a plus
  • Bilingual is a plus

Other Requirements

  • Able to lift 35 pounds and climb stairs
  • Reliable transportation
