- *THIS POSITION HAS HYBRID SCHEDULE, WORKING 2 DAYS WEEK IN MERRILLVILLE, INDIANA OFFICE.*_

Job Summary


The Rates & Regulatory Manager is responsible for providing regulatory optimization, analysis, direct testimony, and process efficiencies for the regulatory and rates team; including, but not limited to, base rates, capital trackers, and tariff modifications.

Maintains regulatory relationships with the Commission and external consumer groups.

This role will work closely with the other regulatory & rates leaders, state policy team, legal regulatory team, and finance team.

Essential Functions

  • Develops creative initiatives designed to enhance the Regulatory approach to growing our business.
  • Understands the financial statements, regulatory compact, and interplay between base rates, trackers, and other ratemaking mechanisms; identifies key inputs and assumptions; supports optimizations of regulatory mechanisms.
  • Analyze the optimal timing and type of filing for each regulatory mechanism and business cases based on the expected value impact to operating earnings, cash, and cost to customer and risks to achieve.
  • Develops positive working relationship with the state management team and key regulatory stakeholders in support of the company's business strategy.
  • Supports NiSource's Regulatory Alignment Council, which is charged with advancing NiSource's strategic initiatives, modernizing regulatory recovery mechanisms, and optimizing regulatory outcomes.
  • Communicates with team on rates & regulatory issues and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with inside and outside expert witnesses and legal counsel on regulatory filings and initiatives.
  • Manages external contractors and projects.
  • Writes and sponsors expert testimony in regulatory proceedings.
  • Provides regulatory guidance, tariff development, and assists in the implementation of regulatory initiatives.
  • Provides technical regulatory support and information to other company functions.
  • Oversees special projects as assigned by leadership.
  • Executes on identified continuous improvement initiatives by driving change, efficiency and challenging the status quo.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree Finance, Accounting or related discipline
  • 46 years Progressive experience working in Rates & Regulatory, Finance, Accounting or other related business field
  • 46 years Proven ability to lead
  • 46 years Experience and knowledge in Regulatory environment
  • 46 years Demonstrated strong verbal communication
  • 46 years Proven ability to synthesize complex data and visualize results, including preparation of Board materials
  • 46 years Ability to build strategic relationships and gain commitment to influence holistic strategic direction
  • 46 years Demonstrated continuous improvement and initiative efforts
  • 46 years Demonstrated financial technical knowledge of interdependencies between business drivers and resulting impact to the financial statements
  • 46 years Experience and knowledge building and reviewing complex financial regulatory models
  • Valid Drivers License

Salary Range:
$107, $160,500.00
