    General Description:


The Assistive Technology Coordinator procures, maintains, inventories, distributes and demonstrates the use of the assistive technology hardware and software for NOVA students with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities.

The Coordinator may also supervise these same activities provided by an Assistive Technology Specialist.

This position is also responsible for overseeing the manner in which Accommodations and Accessibility Services organizes, stores, and accesses student information.

Duties and Tasks:


  • Work with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, website managers, and other departments to oversee the use of AT
  • Conduct regular needs assessment to determine students' level of proficiency in using AT
  • Ensure that AT is available and current on all campuses where technology is available to the public including, but not limited to: Libraries, Testing Centers, Tutoring Centers, and open Computer Labs
  • Provide training to students, faculty, and staff in the use of AT and ensure technologies are used effectively throughout the college
  • Work with the Director of Accommodations and Accessibility Services to procure AT equipment and software
  • Update software licenses as needed
  • Use a database to maintain an accurate inventory of AT equipment and software to include AT that is available on each campus and loaned to students
  • Collaborate with outside agencies, school systems and vendors to insure continuity of services and supports
  • Collect hardware and equipment at the end of each semester
  • Serve as the database manager for Accommodations and Accessibility Services
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining networks; and participating in professional organizations

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications

Required KSAs:


  • Knowledge and competence of various assistive technology tools
  • Knowledge of the essentials of database management
  • Ability to use online learning development tools with an understanding of various methods of electronic communication
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, to include Word and Excel

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Experience in disability services and delivery of assistive technology.
  • Proficient in completing software testing and accessibility checks.
  • Experience in customer support and customer service.
