Thrift Shop Loading Attendant

This position is a weekend-only role the hours and days we are looking to fill are listed below. You must be strong enough to lift 40-pound donation boxes and furniture.

We are a nonprofit that helps animals in need:

Saturday: 10:45 AM-6 Pm

Sunday: 11:45 AM-5:30 PM


Position Summary:

The Thrift Shop Loading Dock Attendant plays a crucial role in the efficient operation of a thrift shop by overseeing all activities related to the donation drop-off loading area.

This position involves lifting and loading as well as, sorting, and organizing incoming donations.

The Loading Attendant ensures the smooth flow of goods in and out of the thrift shop while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

This position will be a weekend role and the person must be reliable and not call out all the time.


Key Responsibilities:

Donation Receiving:
Receive incoming donations from donors, either through direct drop-offs. Inspect and sort donations to determine their condition, quality, and suitability for resale.

Sorting and Organizing:
Categorize donated items based on type, condition, and department (e.g., clothing, electronics, furniture).
Separate items that cannot be sold or require repairs, and handle them accordingly.
Organize and stack items in designated areas, ensuring efficient use of space.

Equipment and Safety:
Operate equipment, such as hand trucks, and pallet jacks, in a safe and efficient manner.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the loading dock area, including sweeping, removing debris, and managing waste disposal.
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.

Collaborate with volunteers and provide them with guidance and support as needed.
Assist in training new staff or volunteers on loading dock procedures and safety measures.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge of different types of merchandise, including clothing, household items, electronics, and furniture.
  • Ability to lift and move HEAVY objects, often utilizing appropriate equipment and following safe lifting techniques.
  • Familiarity with operating materialhandling equipment, such as pallet jacks (if required by the thrift shop).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate sorting and categorization of donations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with team members and donors.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Job Type:
Part-time


Pay:
$15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 per week


Schedule:

  • Evening shift
