    ROLE of the POSITION

    Reporting to the Research and Education Associate Dean/Division Director, the Director of Immersive Learning Initiatives provides leadership and oversight for the new UNLV Presidential Initiative, Immersive Learning/Dreamscape Learn and as a key manager within the UNLV Libraries and the Research and Education Division (RED) the incumbent is expected to contribute to the planning, development, management, and assessment of activities and initiatives in the department and within RED and the University Library as a whole.

    The incumbent is responsible for direct supervision of staff and indirect supervision of student employees within the department.

    They facilitate access to technology and expertise and promote accessible and inclusive immersive learning experiences to bridge disciplines, build networks, and enable the discovery of new contexts for learning and scholarship within the virtual mediascape across campus.

    Performing a variety of activities necessary to support and grow Dreamscape Learn and future immersive learning initiatives at UNLV.


    As a department head, the incumbent works with library administration and staff throughout the University Libraries to provide services, develop and implement policies in a manner that ensures customer service excellence, and provide a welcoming and safe environment for users.

    The incumbent works collaboratively with librarians and staff across the library system on matters related to access services and policy and coordinates communication and training to ensure customer service excellence and consistent application of access services policies and procedures across all University Libraries.


    The incumbent participates in library and university committees and task forces related to primary job assignment as appropriate or assigned.

    As the department director, the individual is expected to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and skills in areas related to primary job assignment by participating in appropriate professional development and continuing education activities in the library, on campus, and within the library profession.

    The incumbent partners with subject matter experts and instructional designers to integrate immersive learning into their curriculum.

    They serve as a liaison between Dreamscape Learn and/or the Office of Online Learning and faculty to develop coursework and also partners with Instructional Technology to ensure the proper operation of technology and Learning Management System (LMS) integration.

    The Research and Education (RED) Division has six departments (Library Liaisons Program, Educational Initiatives, Research, Innovation & Creation, Access Services, and Safety & Loss Prevention, Teacher Development & Resources Library), three branch libraries (Architecture Studies Library, Music Library, and Teacher Development & Resources Library), and has 40 staff members, of which 21 are library academic faculty.

    RED fosters collaborations that contribute to our users' academic success, research, and lifelong learning.

    This mission is realized through instruction of learners; partnerships with faculty to create an integrated information literacy-focused curriculum; provision of targeted information resources; expert, point-of need research assistance; and fostering competencies for lifelong inquiry.

    Minimum Qualifications

    This position requires a

    Master's Degree

    from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and

    minimum 3 years of experience supporting virtual reality technologies.

    A Master's in Computer Science or Instructional Design are preferred. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.


    Competence and sensitivity in working with individuals who are highly diverse regarding many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, ability, income, level of educational attainment, and religion.

    Working knowledge of current trends and issues in virtual and immersive reality mediascape

    Strong customer service skills and commitment to providing service effectively

    Strong organizational, project, and time management skills to lead and/or coordinate multiple projects

    Demonstrated experience providing operational leadership and excellent service to a diverse customer base, preferably in an educational and/or retail setting

    Unity Certified

    Minimum 1 year of supervisory and management experience

    Preferred Qualifications

    Knowledge of current theories and evidence-based practices related to digital learning, particularly immersive learning, Universal Design for Learning principles and course alignment principles

    Experience providing advanced technical support, troubleshooting, and training for classroom technologies

    Experience coordinating complex projects and managing related resources from start to finish developing policies, procedures, and workflows

    Certifications in C++, JavaScript and/or Python

    5 years of experience supporting virtual reality technologies

    3 years of supervisory and management experience

    SALARY
    This is a full-time, 12-month, Administrative Faculty position at a Grade C. Minimum salary is $88,500. Salary is competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon funding.
