Job Summary:


The Ceramic Technician will maintain on a weekly basis, the clay, glazes, and raw materials necessary for the 92NY Ceramic Center to operate effectively and efficiently.


In addition, the technician will load and fire the gas reduction kiln when necessary and help make sure that all aspects of the studio run smoothly on Thursdays and Fridays when the Director is not on site.

Job Responsibilities Include:

Responsibilities include:

  • Mix, clay, glazes, slips, and washes.
  • Assist with kiln loading and unloading.
  • Assist with firing reduction gas kiln.
  • Able to use power tools such as drills, angle grinder etc.
  • Able to carry & move heavy objects of a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear respirator on face required for glaze and clay mixing/recycling.
  • Long hours of standing is required.
  • Order studio clay and glaze materials, coordinate delivery and restock materials.
  • Along with the Director, help to oversee and maintain all aspects of studio operations.
  • Willing to support an active and dedicated community with great customer service.
  • Must be organized and willing to keep a clean and safe working environment.

Experience, Education, & Skills Desired:

  • BFA in Ceramics or equivalent experience.
  • Must be familiar with all aspects of working in and maintaining a community based ceramic studio.
  • Knowledgeable about all ceramic materials and processes.

Per Diem Compensation

$25 - $28/hour


The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
