DESCRIPTION OF WORK:


  • As a Police Communications Operator, you will be responsible for coordinating communications for PSP Troop R. You will receive calls for service and information from the public and county 911 operators regarding emergency and nonemergency police issues. In this position, you can expect to dispatch and relay incident information to the nearest troop response unit and to other proper authorities. You are going to assist the public with accident reports, complaints, and information requests. You will also maintain accurate records of actions taken in response to call for service. An additional duty is assisting in the training of other department personnel assigned to communication desk duties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Fulltime employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are based on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays, with 30minute lunch.
  • You must report to work regardless of weather conditions.
  • You may be required to extend your shift due to operational needs.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • Two years of experience using twoway radio, multiline telephone, or computer aided dispatch systems;
    or:
  • Two years of experience using computer systems for entering, updating, and retrieving information;
    or:
  • Completion of 60 college credits;
    or:
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:


  • All employees must possess a clear, firm voice and no major speech, hearing, or visual impairments that would interfere with understanding verbal communication, being understood, or using electronic communications equipment and visual display equipment.
  • All employees must obtain an active Public Safety Telecommunicator certification issued by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
  • All employees must obtain active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certifications issued by the Pennsylvania State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job

Additional Requirements:


  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass criminal history and background investigations.
