The Logistics Technician is an 8-hour rotating shift position at the Torrance polystyrene plant. The shift covers days, swing and nights, 5 days a week. The job may require work on weekends, holidays and overtime coverage on other shifts.

The position requires knowledge and use of a workstation, use of a computerized maintenance work order system, minor maintenance on shift, and the ability to safely and responsibly operate the plant equipment using standard operating procedures and work processes.

The position may train to cover shift Operating Technician positions. Knowledge of SAP to release shipments is required.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Perform routine operation of basic control system and devices to monitor and transfer products.
  • Loading finished materials into railcars and bulk trucks.
  • Connecting, sampling, testing and unloading of styrene railcars.
  • Use of forklifts to unload cartons, totes and pallets of raw materials.
  • Using troubleshooting skills to resolve product quality, safety, and environmental problems.
  • Attention to detail while inspecting, cleaning, loading and securing trucks and railcars.
  • Following operating discipline, procedures and practices to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned duties.
  • The control, monitoring and adjustment of all control systems and manually operated systems.
  • Identification of equipment requiring maintenance.
  • Clearing and tagging equipment as required.
  • Communicating with transportation providers on issues related to carriers and equipment.
  • Performing tasks assigned per the master task list.
  • Accurately completing all required paperwork.
  • Performing all duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Experience in chemical/manufacturing plant operation is a plus, but not required.
  • High degree of safety awareness and willingness to follow safety standards.
  • Ensure procedures are valid and up to date.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.

Job Requirements:


  • High school diploma is required.
  • Must be able to operate forklifts and trackmobile.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Work involves climbing stairs and ladders to access the top of railcars and trucks.
  • Must be able to work at heights on top of silos.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and selfcontained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
  • Must complete Minimum Job requirement Check Sheet.
  • Tenets of Operations and Tenets of Maintenance awareness.

Preferred:


  • Two year degree or some college with training in process operations such as pumps, heat exchangers, valves, distillation, and chemical reactions.

$58,000 - $60,000 a year


Relocation is not available with this position.
