  • Scientific American_ seeks an audiofocused
    Multimedia Editor to produce our flagship podcast program, _Science, Quickly_, and to expand the show's audience and reach. The editor will work closely with engagement, art and text editors in a collaborative and creative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Produce three podcast episodes a week, in close collaboration with the podcast host, chief multimedia editor/executive producer, and a range of freelance reporters, producers and editors to explain highly important scientific news and stories
  • Report to the chief multimedia editor, and work with editors across Scientific American
  • Work on audio distribution strategies for Scientific American's website and social spaces
  • Help coordinate our production operations, managing both field and studio recordings
  • Contribute to team discussions, ideageneration, and editorial strategy
  • Develop awareness of timely issues in science, science policy and the scientific community
  • Help identify breaking news stories and trending topics for coverage
  • Work to ensure consistent deliverables that meet the high standards of quality and audio storytelling at Scientific American

Experience, skills and qualifications
Essential

  • At least 5 years of experience in audio reporting, editing and postproduction
  • A wide range postproduction and editing abilities, demonstrating experience in the Adobe suite, particularly in Audition (ProTools experience is optional, but not SciAm's preferred DAW)
  • Be able to successfully juggle projects and people across different deadlines and timescales
  • Show a portfolio of recent, relevant work
  • Work collaboratively and collegially
  • Show a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and justice

  • Have a passion for science and health storytelling
  • Have at least one skill that you would like to develop professionally—and one skill you can gift to others on the team (more than that is welcomed)

US Annualized Base Salary Range:
$77,500 - $90,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
