Description
In light of the Congregation of St.

Joseph's Mission, Charism, Generous Promises and our Sacred Work, the Housekeeper is responsible for keeping assigned areas clean, sanitary and disease and germ free by washing, scouring, mopping, polishing, sanitizing according to cleaning schedule and techniques.

Keeps work equipment neat and clean.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Performs all housekeeping related tasks by cleaning and maintaining disease and germfree areas as assigned; sweeping, dusting, washing, vacuuming and mopping.
  • Washes windows, walls and tiles as necessary.
  • Disposes of trash in recycling bins or garbage containers in an appropriate manner.
  • Advises supervisor when supplies diminish for reorder; stocking assigned areas with proper supplies in correct amounts.
  • Assists with making beds as needed.
  • Follows cleaning schedule to assure buildings are maintained in an orderly manner.
  • Washes clothes in a manner that will not damage clothes or machines, washing contaminated linens separately and following standard washing procedures according to proper cycle.
  • Follows safe guidelines for the proper use of cleaning chemicals and supplies as directed.
  • Familiarity with emergency procedures if chemicals are misused.
  • Complies with safety procedures in performing housekeeping duties.
  • Maintains housekeeping cart in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Reports need for repairs and unusual situations on property and grounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of information as it pertains to residents, employees and vendors.
  • Possess a general knowledge of housekeeping skills; sweeping, dusting, washing, vacuuming and mopping.
  • Displays ability to operate various tools; vacuum, carpet cleaner, washing machine/dryer, etc.
  • Displays ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Displays ability to work as a team or independently.
  • Must possess competent and effective verbal and written skills.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow simple instructions.
  • Displays ability to relate well and communicate effectively with the elderly and understand the individual dignity of residents, employees and guests.
  • Displays ability to balance projects with varying degrees of interruptions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Highschool Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Previous experience in housekeeping preferred.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, bend and reach for long periods of time.
  • Ability to pull and push carts, lift 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and detergent.
  • Exposure to climate and temperature changes.
Successful applicants must pass state-required pre-employment screenings including physical, TB and drug screen and criminal background check with fingerprint.
