    POSITION OBJECTIVE:

    The position of Certified Behavior Specialist is for the purpose of planning, organizing, directing and implementing behavior intervention and support plans for identified students at secondary level.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
    • Makes recommendations to staff who support individualized behavior programming.
    • Utilizes data to plan, supervise, evaluate and revise instructional and behavior programs to meet student needs.
    • Plans and provides in-service/training programs for parents and staff.
    • Provides input and recommendations for individual education programs and evaluations/reevaluations of students.
    • Provides technical assistance by conducting functional assessments and analyzing the whole learning environment related to student skills acquisition.
    • Assists in the development, facilitation, implementation and follow-up of training in the analysis of student behavior.
    • Provides consultation services related to the duties of the position. Keeps current with the literature, new research findings and resources in field of expertise.
    • Works collaboratively with school staff to implement instructional and behavior plans to enhance student's independence within the school setting.
    • Ensures instructional information, materials and resources are readily available for staff and students and are appropriate to meet instructional and behavior needs of students.
    • Ensures responsive communications with students, families, staff and community agencies.
    • Exhibits effective leadership and collaboration within the schools, and special education program to enhance and support student achievement.
    • Oversees the collection analysis of data related to the duties of the position.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
    • Reports directly to the Special Education Director
    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

    Required:
    • Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid ESA Washington State certification as a School Psychologist or School Social Worker or with a BCBA license.
    • Experience in behavioral and instructional strategies and training
    Preferred:
    • 3 years' experience in behavior analysis and support
    • Previous experience as a classroom teacher
    • Previous experience working with students that have required behavior intervention plans
    • Training in Right Response
    Allowable Substitutions:
    • Previous clinical experience may substitute for minimum of required experience
    LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):
    • ESA Washington State certification as a School Psychologist or School Social Worker or with a BCBA license.
    KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):
    • A demonstrated and documented understanding of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
    • Ability to use these principles in the educational setting in public schools in accordance with the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA) and the Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
    • Broad knowledge of behavior intervention strategies applicable to a variety of student learning environments.
    SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
    • Skills in oral and written communication.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to work with other members of a school or department to accomplish common goals.
    • Ability and skills necessary to individualize student needs.
    • Ability to monitor, implement and revise behavior management plans for individual students.
    • Demonstrates a commitment and ability to work with a full range of students including gifted, mainstreamed special education, English language learners, and students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
    • Ability to use varied assessments, including performance tasks, portfolios, and student self-assessment.
    • Attends ongoing professional development activities, such as college course work, professional associations, workshops, and in-service opportunities.
    • Exhibits a strong and positive attitude with the belief that each student can be taught and has the right and capacity to achieve personal academic excellence.
    • Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations.
    • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.
    • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

    Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    $ 69,816 to $ 130,960 annual salary (based on the negotiated collective bargaining agreement salary schedule). Certificated staff work the school year contract with placement on the District and BEA bargaining agreement salary schedule. Placement on the schedule is determined by training and experience.

    Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon .45 FTE. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
