    Description

    The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Division of Anatomic Pathology, is seeking a Researcher IV candidate to join a large immunology lab and aid in studies related to immune responses in the mouse intestines.

    Major responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with maintenance and management of a complex mouse colony.
  • Training to assist with transgenic engineering of mice.
  • Performing in vivo and in vitro experiments as directed by supervisor and senior lab staff.
  • Collecting, entering, summarizing, and analyzing data.
  • General Responsibilities

    Working with a high degree of independence:

    • To oversee projects within the laboratory
    • To assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities.
    • To collect, enter, summarize, analyze, and interpret data.
    • To contribute significantly to the planning/design of studies.
    • To help develop long or short-term goals.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages and provides maintenance of a mouse colony.
  • Trains to support development of transgenic mouse lines.
  • Designs and performs in vivo experiments as directed.
  • Performs data analysis and management of colony maintenance software.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Annual Salary Range $47,486.40 – $85,000.00



    Qualifications

    • Doctorate in a related field
    • OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience
    • OR Associate's degree in related field and six (6) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    Preferences

    • Experience with basic immunological techniques: tissue dissociation and cell isolation, multicolor flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry.
    • Experience with basic molecular biology techniques: DNA and RNA isolation, PCR and RT-PCR.
    • Proficiency with mouse handling, dosing, and tissue harvesting.
    • Experience maintaining genetically modified mouse strains.
