- Conducts mentalhealth screenings and assessments based on a review of availablerecords, and clinical interviews withinmates.
- As part of a mental health team, confers with otherclinical staff, e.g., psychiatrists, psychologists, mental healthservice provider's physicians, nurse, and social workers, in orderto gather and provide information concerning patient psychologicalproblems, to ensure treatment activities are well integrated andpatient care follow-through occurs. Provides treatment toinmates by developing, implementing and modifying individualtreatment plans based on an evaluation of needs and level offunctioning.
- Documents treatment and evaluation activities in thehealth care record for each personseen.
- Consults with and makes appropriate recommendations tomultidisciplinary staff (e.g., security staff, unit staff, andfacility management) regards behavior and mental health issuesaffecting inmates.
- Maintains strict confidentiality ofsensitive materials and information at alltimes.
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of psychologicalcounseling theory and techniques by way of treatments andactivities used for individuals incaseload.
- Provides appropriate mental health assessments,counseling and confrontation avoidance interventions to address theneeds of inmates in crisis.
- Administrators mental status exams or usesother psychological tests and instruments as necessary to evaluateinmates' treatment, adjustment, and placementneeds.
- Graduate from an accredited college or university witha degree in social or behavioral science or a closely related fieldis required by State.
- One year experience where the primaryresponsibility was provision of mental health or counselingservices.
- Additional related work experience that includes directprovision of counseling services or training for same may besubstituted for education on a year-for-yearbasis.
- Must possess LSW, LPC, LCSW or Psych Nurse (RN)licensing in Ohio.
- A valid driver's license is preferred,unless required by contract or applicable statute.
- Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years ofage.
