    Tax Supervisor/Manager (Middle Market - Large Company Client Focus)

    · Seeking candidates who have experience with either Middle Market and/or Large Company tax clients focusing on larger multistate, international, or complex returns.

    Location: Rochester, NY office. For most of our positions at Insero, one can work in the office every day or if you like, in a hybrid structure working up to 3 days from home.

    *We relocated to a newly remodeled office located in the heart of downtown Rochester. There is easy access to great restaurants and events, and featured amenities such as collaboration spaces, game room and firm paid for underground parking in a secure garage.

    General Department Information:

    The Rochester Tax practice in the firm is not a high volume 1040 practice but is instead a tax practice focusing on complex tax compliance and projects within Fortune 500 companies as well as tax consulting across small and middle market companies including: multi-state, multi-national, real estate, manufacturing (amongst other industries) companies. Majority of our small business clients are in the 1-10 million sales volume and middle market practice are closely held businesses in the 20 million – 200 million+ sales volume many of which have global and multi state issues.

    One would work directly with our Tax Partners & Principals and would serve as a key technical liaison with clients; involved with both compliance and consulting projects.

    Responsibilities:

    Preparing difficult business returns.

    · Reviewing tax returns/work files for completeness, accuracy and compliance; communicates with and trains staff on areas needing improvement.

    · Engages in complex tax planning and develops creative ideas to reduce tax liabilities.

    · Reviewing tax research methodology, alternatives and conclusions.

    · Monitors tax deadlines to ensure that returns are prepared on a timely basis; communicates with managers during the preparation process to identify any tax issues needing addressing and to pull jobs so that they reach the technical review stage timely.

    · Understanding and completing the steps in conducting research projects; preparing written conclusions, subject to Manager or Principal review.

    · Assisting audit and accounting staff with non-complex tax questions.

    · Understanding tax accruals.

    · Responding to routine IRS or state tax notices and if needed, participating in IRS audits, and administrative hearings.

    · Mentoring and developing other tax professionals in the department.

    *Depending on one's Tax experience and area of interest, you could have the opportunity to work in the following areas:

    -Preparation and/or review of complex corp/business tax returns and the individual shareholder's returns

    -ASC 740 - accounting for income tax

    -Transactional work such as acquisitions & divestitures

    -Tax Research

    -Corporate international tax - transactions with foreign entities

    -Identifying tax savings strategies for clients

    Qualifications:

    Minimum of 4 years' experience working in a public accounting firm with current tax experience servicing middle market and/or large company clients with a strong background in Partnerships, S Corporations, and C Corporations. A minimum of an additional 2 years supervisory experience is required for a management level position. Thorough knowledge of the tax issues facing multinational US companies or publicly traded entities, especially in the areas of tax compliance and consulting services tailored to organizations with domestic operations with the goal of tax minimization. Comprehensive technical skills in ASC 740 and FIN 48. A proven record of simultaneously managing multiple projects and engagement teams for various clients. CPA license is highly recommended/preferred.

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Accounting w/150 credit hours and CPA eligibility required. Supervisors normally have a minimum of 4 years' experience working in public accounting (or equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the firm). Managers who possess more Supervisory experience and normally have a minimum of 6+ years' experience in Tax working within public accounting would be considered for the mid-upper end of the range.

    In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the starting base pay range for this position is $73,000 - $110,000 annually. Please keep in mind that this range is base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position such as eligibility to receive discretionary spot bonus incentives. This range is a reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and/or education and geographic location. It is not typical for a candidate to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the capabilities and experience of the candidate. Incentives, if any, depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and firm performance.

    *Manager Level Bonus Program: Managers are eligible for a discretionary MBO based annual bonus. The program consists of having proven accomplishments in established areas: Client Service, People and Growth.
