JOB SUMMARY:

Transport inmates of all security classifications to various locations within and outside of the state and regional localities; transports inmates via passenger vehicles to various destinations such as court, jails, prisons, medical centers, and other specified locations.


DUTIES:

This position may not include all duties listed nor do the list of responsibilities include all tasks which may be found in this position.


  • Escort inmates to court appearances that require contact with judges, attorneys, and other court personnel.
  • Escort inmates to medical appointments while supervising contact with medical personnel such as doctors, nurses, other medical personnel, and the public.
  • Maintain a professional courtesy with all law enforcement agencies to include federal, state, and local police agencies and sheriff's offices within and outside of the state.
  • Maintain security, custody, and control of inmates by keeping an accurate count of inmates while outside of the facility and performing searches of the inmates and their property for prohibited contraband items.
  • Communicate with outside jurisdictions, correctional facilities, and any other law enforcement agencies where inmates are being housed of approximate times of arrival.
  • Placing proper restraining devices on the inmates for security purposes while transporting.
  • Maintain security devices issued by the Jail, such as weapon and body armor by keeping them clean and in working condition.
  • Review, handle, and distribute all related travel and court documents.
  • Determine the proper, shortest, and safest travel route for all transports.
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance of assigned vans and complete proper vehicle logs for each transport.
  • Follow the procedure for taking custody of inmates from other agencies.
  • Be available for emergency transports both during and outside of specified on-call period.
  • Be familiar with all local courts, police agencies, sheriff's offices, and hospitals in case of an emergency.
  • Qualify bi-annually at the firing range with a score of 80 or above.
  • Any additional duties as directed by the Superintendent or designee.
  • Monitor kitchen inmate workers during meal preparation and delivery.
  • Inspect food carts leaving and entering the kitchen area.
  • Enforce rules of the kitchen operation, such as making sure the inmates wear hairnets and beard masks.
  • Supervise the inmate workers during the cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen department and equipment.
  • Supervise kitchen inmate workers while retrieving and returning food items to the freezers.
  • Supervise inmates during food deliveries; review the delivery ticket for accuracy to ensure all items are accounted for and free of damages.
  • Responsible for bringing inmate workers to the kitchen and returning them to the housing unit.
  • Follows sanitation, safety, and housekeeping standards.
  • Responsible for properly searching inmate workers prior to entering the kitchen and upon returning the inmate to the housing unit. This includes placing each inmate worker in the BOSS chair.
  • Discipline inmate workers in the food service department as necessary; terminates inmate workers as necessary. Completes all paperwork associated with termination.
  • Supervise inmates during trash removal.
  • Conduct a weekly shake down of the kitchen area to look for contraband and complete log book.
  • Any additional duties as directed by the Superintendent or designee.

$46, $48,153.00 per year
