Description:


  • Maintain a clean and safe environment within educational facilities. Assist the Head Custodian with general cleaning and maintenance of assigned facility.
  • PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Cleaning and Sanitizing:
  • Responsible for cleaning classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, entryways, drinking fountains/water filling stations, gymnasium, cafeteria, kitchen, windows, and other common areas. This includes dusting, wiping, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. They also need to ensure proper sanitation to promote a healthy environment.
  • Trash Removal:
  • Collecting and disposing of waste from classrooms, offices, and other areas. This includes emptying trash cans and recycling bins.
  • Restroom Maintenance:
  • Ensure that restrooms are clean, wellstocked, and properly maintained. This involves cleaning fixtures, replenishing supplies, and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Floor Care:
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of various types of flooring, including carpets, tiles, and hardwood. This may involve using cleaning equipment such as mops, vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners.
  • Routine Inspections:
  • Perform routine inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, or cleanliness issues. They report any issues to the appropriate authorities for resolution.
  • Security and Safety:
  • Custodians may play a role in maintaining the security of the school premises. This includes ensuring that doors and windows are secured and reporting any suspicious activities. They may also assist with emergency procedures and drills.
  • Setting up for Events:
  • Custodians may be involved in setting up rooms and facilities for events, meetings, or activities. This includes arranging furniture and ensuring the space is clean and organized.
  • Grounds Maintenance:
  • In addition to indoor responsibilities, custodians are also responsible for outdoor maintenance tasks such as sidewalk cleaning, snow removal, lawn maintenance, and basic landscaping.
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Custodians often work as part of a team and may need to collaborate with other school staff, including teachers and administrators.
  • Adherence to Policies:
  • Custodians are expected to follow established policies and procedures related to cleaning, safety, and security. This may include using specific cleaning products, following safety protocols, and reporting incidents.
  • Flexible Schedule:
  • Custodians may need to work a flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends, to accommodate the needs of the school.
  • Annual Cleaning:
  • Coordinate thorough deep cleaning of facilities annually as assigned and based on building availability.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian, Principal, Assistant Principal, or Facilities Services Manager.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Practical experience in custodial services is desirable.
  • Familiarity with commercial type sweepers, buffing machines, and other custodial equipment and procedures is desirable. Trained to direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout the district.
  • GENERAL
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Maturity and the ability to deal effectively with students and staff.
  • Selfmotivated with the ability to work independently within the limits of assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to frequently walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Receipt of current, favorable clearances including: Pennsylvania State Criminal History (Act 34), Federal Criminal History (FBI

Salary and Work Schedule:

Minimum Salary $14.50 per hour - 8 hours per day - 12 months per year + $0.20 shift differential for 2nd shift hours
