    • What is your experience with youth organizing? Specifically, how do you learn from and incorporate young people in organizational and strategic decision-making?

    ABOUT IGNITE UTAH

Outside of politics, Utah is well known for its red rocks and scenic national parks. Within politics we're known for our red domination - every statewide office and our entire federal delegation. But we're not just super red, we're also super young. Utah is the nation's fastest-growing and youngest state. And data demonstrates that young people, especially those with higher ed degrees (Utah is ranked third highest for educational attainment), are not comfortable voting like their parents did. Our youth are also diverse; approximately one in four Utahns are non-white and non-white people are responsible for 61% of Utah's growth between 2021 and 2022.

Our beautiful, big, red, youthful, and growing western state needs an organization built for young people, by young people to represent the values and implement solutions that bring Utah closer to a place where freedom and justice is for ALL of us.

Born as an initiative of the Utah Donor Collaborative and grown using matching funds from the Alliance for Youth Action and other partners, IGNITE UTAH is excited to announce its search for a founding Executive Director. We envision an organization dedicated to reaching ALL young Utahns at colleges and technical schools and near their parents' homes. We need YOUR energy, passion, love of Utah, and desire to keep it beautiful, free, and fair.

The right candidate will immediately design and launch a civic engagement program for the 2024 election cycle focused on the West Side of Salt Lake City, specifically engaging young people as leaders and organizers. Post-election, there is an opportunity to transition the role into a full-time, salaried position. The focus will then evolve to a year-round, statewide youth organizing mission.

    WHO SHOULD APPLY?

We encourage applications from Utahns, born and raised (or almost), who are engaged and energized by the Utah political landscape and have a passion to lead and organize. We are actively seeking an individual who can energize people, find common ground, and co-create space with both younger and older adults. This role involves designing and delivering comprehensive training programs aimed at empowering young people involved in various campaigns to advocate and organize for social change effectively. The executive director will play a crucial role in amplifying the voices of young people, fostering their growth, and equipping them with the skills and resources necessary to drive impactful change in their campaigns, communities, and beyond. This role requires a dynamic individual with a strong commitment to and experience with youth organizing and leadership development, a deep understanding of leadership development principles, and skills and experience in designing and delivering impactful training initiatives.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Phase 1: Design, implement, measure, and evaluate a West-Side organizing program that builds a team of young adults to engage people across the West Side of Salt Lake City in voting and other civic engagement activities.
    • Serve as the face of Ignite Utah through facilitation and coordination of efforts to support youth from diverse backgrounds, regions, and communities across the state of Utah to drive collective action toward shared goals and visions.
    • Design, build, and implement comprehensive skill-building and skill-enhancing programs tailored to the needs of youth and adults working with youth who are involved in state youth organizing campaigns.
    • Design, develop, organize, and facilitate curriculum and training materials focused on community organizing, youth leadership development, advocacy skills, and other relevant areas to support intergenerational youth engagement and leadership development.
    • Partner with local, regional, and statewide campaign teams to identify specific areas for skill development and tailor training programs to address those needs effectively.
    • Support - through mentorship, guidance, and resources - a cohort of youth leaders, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, including active participation and contribution to strategic discussions and initiatives, to contribute to their personal and professional growth.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of relevant programs through assessments, feedback, and data analysis, making necessary adjustments for continual improvement.
    • Forge and oversee partnerships and collaborations with organizations, experts, and stakeholders to expand resources and opportunities for youth engagement.
    • Manage additional staff members and interns who can aid in the development and execution of programs.
    • Support organizational fundraising initiatives.
    • Support general organizational needs.

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Experience developing and leading youth or community organizing campaigns and/or youth leadership programs.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated understanding of youth leadership principles, advocacy, community organizing, and social change methodologies.
    • Demonstrated facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire youth from diverse backgrounds.
    • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices and management.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with campaign teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
    • Demonstrated experience working with adults to develop intergenerational organizing practices and processes
    • Demonstrated growth mindset with a commitment to learning and expansion.

    LOCATION AND TRAVEL
