    Description
    The Pattern Shop Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the pattern shop within the organization.

    This role involves managing a team of patternmakers and ensuring the safe and timely production of high-quality patterns and fixtures used in the manufacturing process.

    The Pattern Shop Manager is also responsible for maintaining equipment (including gating and rigging), managing budgets, proper storage of tooling in the foundry, and optimizing processes to meet production goals.

    Team Leadership:
    Lead and manage a team of patternmakers, providing guidance and support.
    Coach and mentor team members in resolving conflicts and achieving results. Provide ongoing training where applicable to support growth and productivity.
    Assign tasks, set performance goals, and conduct performance evaluations.

    Pattern Production:
    Oversee the creation and modification of patterns and templates based on design specifications.
    Ensure the accuracy and precision of patterns to meet print requirements.

    Resource Management:
    Manage the allocation of resources, including personnel, materials, and equipment.
    Procure necessary supplies and equipment within budget constraints.

    Quality Assurance:
    Implement quality control processes to ensure that patterns meet quality standards.
    Address and resolve any issues related to pattern quality and accuracy.

    Process Optimization:
    Continuously improve and streamline pattern-making processes for efficiency.
    Identify opportunities to reduce costs and increase productivity.

    Equipment Maintenance:
    Schedule and oversee maintenance and repair of pattern shop equipment.
    Ensure all machinery and tools are maintained in good working condition.
    Molding Production
    Manage the pattern storage operations including facilities and personnel.
    Manage the set-up process at each mold line to ensure the production of a quality product

    Budget Management:
    Prepare and manage the budget for the pattern shop, including cost control and cost forecasting.
    Monitor expenditure and identify cost-saving measures.

    Safety Compliance:
    Implement and enforce safety protocols and standards in the pattern shop.
    Conduct regular safety training and inspections, attend mandatory Safety Meetings, and complete other safety-related duties as assigned.

    Documentation:
    Maintain accurate records and documentation related to patterns, inventory, and production schedules.

    Collaboration:
    Work closely with design and production teams to ensure patterns meet project requirements.
    Collaborate with engineering and R&D departments for pattern innovation.
    Attend daily Sample Meetings to facilitate the transfer of work from Foundry to Pattern Shop

    Expected Areas of Competence (KSAs)

    Several years of experience in pattern making and shop management.
    Strong knowledge of pattern-making techniques, materials, and equipment.
    Excellent leadership and team management skills.
    Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software.
    Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
    Budgeting and fiscal management skills.

    This position description is intended to cover the most significant, ongoing job functions and competency areas. Successful performance in the role will require performing satisfactorily other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience Requirements

    Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, industrial design) is preferred. Equivalent work experience in Patternmaking or CNC Machining may be acceptable.
    Experience in the manufacturing processes used for metal fabrication, CNC machining, and green sand-casting production preferred.
    Experience in heavy manufacturing and a unionized environment is a plus.

    Physical Requirements


    Exerting up to one hundred pounds of force occasionally and/or minimal amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.


    The worker must be able to access, analyze and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the company's Human Resources operations.

    Travel Requirements

    Less than 5% travel is anticipated with this position.
